Solved Remaining Windows rearm count : 1

Out of curiosity, I went to check on my Win7 OS liscense....

I opened cmd and typed .......slmgr /dlv

One line caught my attention : Remaining Windows rearm count : 1

What does that mean ?

Welcome
You can actually install windows without giving the key number. You are allowed a certain number of days to give the number or you will lose use of Windows. In addition you can do it so many times (rearm). It probably does not apply to you any longer but you can do it once more.

Is that rearm count recorded within Windows, or online? In other words, if one formats a drive and does a clean install, does the rearm count start over?

Yes rearm starts over after clean reinstall.

Thanks, that is what I hoped that it would do, since I'm going to have to do a clean install, once I get everything together for my new build.

Thank you for the reply. This is a one wek old computer. Bought brand new on May 21st, this year.
But one day while I was doing system restore, for no reason but to see what would happen, the computer never got out of the system restore.
I tried to power it off and restart,but it would not restart. Received an error message : Boot critical file D:\windows\system32\hal.dll is corrupt.
So I did a FACTORY SETTINGS routine.
Does that count as " install windows without giving the key number " ?
So far I have not been asked for the key number.

No, the factory reinstall does not count. You will not be asked for the number.

If you have a computer from a manufacturor like Packard bell or HP then you will most likely will never see Windows Activation

If Windows is activated then you do not need to worry how many Reams are left

Strange, why should remaining rearm count on a new oem computer be 1? Should be 4.
