Actually, a lot of cars have 17" wheels or larger.
My 88 Formula, our 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS, and our 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500.

I'm wondering what the advantage of the large diameter is, because it would be the overall diameter of the wheel and tire that would effect performance and mileage, and those tires appear to be low rise. Is the outside diameter actually greater than other cars of it's type with 14 or 15 inch wheels?

No diameter difference normally but with less side wall the tire performs better for sidewall flex but also performs less shock absorption as well. Hence why extreme lowpro tires will bend alloys so easily.

And how does decreasing sidewall flex help...more traction...less tire wear...or?

lower profile tire gives you more cornering ability before the tire folds over on itself, as well as giving you sharper more precise control when making hard left/right corrections.
When you normally go with a larger wheel, you go with a lower profile tire to keep the overall diameter the same so that the speedometer will read correctly.

I can see where that would be important in competition, or if one simply liked driving in that fashion, but would one see or feel any difference in routine day to day driving?

Bye stiffening the tire with less sidewall the tires contact patch is enhanced. With less deflection the car also has a more direct connection to the road and this can be good (smooth roads/race tracks) or bad normal to poor road conditions. You ask if it matters in normal day to day driving.....not in the least. I have a '72 with 14" rims that drives crazy good and a '05 with 18" that drives amazing as well.

Thanks to both of you, my questions about this wasn't for the purpose of buying new tires, only to sate my curiosity. I only need one tire... a 15" Goodyear Wrangler, so that all of them matches. I will probably buy it at Walmart, since they seemed to have the best price, but from past experience, I tend to doubt their expertise. That is the reason for my installation questions.

I'm still trying to locate the power door lock relays without any success so far. There is no space behind the driver's side kick panel, and I removed the plastic guard to access behind the dash on the driver's side, and found nothing. I have been searching for a free repair manual, either online or download, but what little I have found doesn't go into sufficient detail to be of any help in this particular instance. I even called the county library, and all they have is Chilton's, which I know is too basic to be of use.

Therefore, I'm considering buying a membership in an online repair manual service, but I'm wondering if anyone can advise me as to who would have the best service available?

I may go to my brothers shop tomorrow and if I do I'll get the location of the relay and diagrams for the circuit.
I'd ask him to do it but they are really busy there.

Yes, but which relay? I looked over the engine compartment, and the only relays that I found were in the fuse box, but weren't related to what I'm looking for. I may have located the body control module. One thread I found on a forum said that it was under the center console, but even if that is true, it still leaves the power door lock relay module location to be found.

I'm just throwing tidbits I know. Hopefully Zepher will come through for you. There are many mentions of door locks issues in general that state that the relay is in the door panel along with the actuator. A Guy

Hmm, I tend to doubt that, because from what I have read, there is only one module with 3 relays inside, which controls all 5 doors, and if that is so, it wouldn't make sense for it to but put inside of just one door. Then again, relays are such common components, that it wouldn't surprise me if there were some kind of relay there.

i found some repair manuals on eBay for my vehicle for ~$13 - $25, which I'm awaiting responses from the vendors about them, but I'm wondering if anyone has used something like this. The ad claims that it is like one used by professionals, rather than being like Haynes, Chilton, etc. Are they?

The wheel that I ordered for my spare just arrived, and after getting it out of the box...which was no small task, I noticed that it looked wider than I expected. I measured the distance between the beads at 7". Now I'm wondering if it will fit a P235/75/R15 tire properly?

EDIT: Yes, I found a tire calculator and it falls right in the middle, so I guess it is good to go, except that I want to clean it up some first.
