Removing non-dual boot O/S from partition....

I have a Windows 7 laptop that has 3 partitions on it with only one booting Operating System on the Hard Drive. One of the partitions contains a previous version of Win7 on it that became corrupted and I had to install my current version of Win7 on a newer primary partition which Windows boots straight into.

I no longer need to use the previous O/S and it takes up 17.6GB which I think is now unnecessary to retain (and is hogging up valuable Gigs that I could really make use of due to nagging pop-up that tells me that disk [partition] is running out of space) and would like to know if I can safely remove the old O/S from the partition and still retain the other data on the partition and how I can best go about removing the old O/S?

Please post a screen shot of your Disk Management window so that we can better understand what you have.

I vote you have one OS partition and one data partition -- to make long-term backups and restores more friendly. Roy's right as rain -- many many have only one partition and do just fine for years!

Yep, backup your data, use a Partition Wizard Boot CD to setup the drive, I too would create a data partition if you only have one drive.

Then reinstall windows.

Do it right, don`t think twice about it.

Thank you for your help, Gents. As requested, here is a screen shot of my Disk Management window. As you can see, I have added notations to the image which I trust will explain things a little clearer?

I already have a freshly installed Win7 O/S on my C: Drive AddRAM and it is running perfectly, thank you.
I had to do a clean install of this O/S the the Primary partition on my C: Drive because the original Windows 7 that resides now on D: Old Windows became corrupted and necessitated the clean install onto my C: Drive. It is this corrupted version of Win7 on D: Old Windows that I had to partition and now wish to delete from the the partition but still retain the other data contained on that partition - can this be done?
Also, I am very limited for back up space on the other partitions so can I just delete the O/S files/folder on its own?

Why don`t you just copy your data over from D to C, then you can completely format D and start using it for storage, but if it`s only 18 GB I would just combine it to C, it`s too small an amount of space to be useful for anything.

That is the only proper way to do it.

Your shot of Disk Management did not show up.

We need to see that before you proceed.
