Hey guys,

I'm having a problem with temps and I'm not really sure where else to turn - I've tried everything from re-seating the CPU, to re-seating with Arctic Silver, etc... But I still can't solve my problem.

My cores are all sitting between 30-35 C while idling, gaming and multitasking in other applications will be around 45-55 C but whenever I try to render anything my temps gradually climb and my computer ends up shutting down due to hitting the safety temp. shut down. I have only rendered out of these 2 applications, have not tried anything out of Maya, Nuke, or other intensive programs, but I will say that I am able to render out of After Effects, yet my temps still do get up to 60-75 C.

I have a Cooler Master 212 Plus on it's way to my house now (Should be receiving it tomorrow) and going to see if it helps at all, but as of now I'm clueless on what to do :x

I'm running...
i7 2600k
16gb's of RAM
XFX 6870 GPU
128 GB Crucial M4, 1TB WD Black

I just put this build together a few months ago, and have had problems with renders since - But I did not have overheating issues with my last [less-superior] build.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Rob

Did you change the shutdown temp in the bios to a lower limit by chance?

The stock cooler should keep the CPU temp in the upper 70's in a room with an ambient air temp of 78*f.
I tested my 2600k with prime 95 with the stock cooler before I sold it just to see how warm it got since I had been using a corsair h60 when I first got the 2600k.

If the cooler is seated properly, you are running stock clocks, and it still shuts down, then maybe you aren't getting enough air in and out if the case.

Nah, I haven't touched the shut down temps - Everythings on stock clocks, and should be seated properly.

I should be getting more than enough air in and out of the case, as I'm running 2 intake fans on the front, and 3 exhaust fans - 1 on the side (Directly across from the cpu), one on top, and one on the back.
Would that be causing an issue?

I'd change the thermal paste again and reseat the cooler, just to make sure.

Well, problem solved!
I got the CM 212+ on and my temps are between 25-30 C on idle, while gaming 30-35 C, renders are peaking 65 C.

Stock heatsink may have been having issues!
