repair clock

Hi
The bios battery of my laptop is dead and I installed some applications to automatically update time from the internet but with no success..What is worst now even if I manually set the time something is messed up and the time changes randomly every few minutes during normal operation with power...

how can I repair the clock ?

Replace the battery
That battery does more that control time, it keeps your computer setting etc in case of power failure.

rich is right (as always) you really need to replace the battery.

it should be a cheap standard-issue flat watch type battery.

getting inside your laptop is a bit scary for the first time, but it's easier if you can find a service manual for your machine which will give you detailed instructions and diagrams.

otherwise ask a geeky friend to do it for you.

What is the make and full model number of your laptop? Desktop computers generally use a button cell, type CR2032, but laptops can vary. You need to check your user manual.

my laptop is a vaio vgn-fe31m

shouldn't though the time functions of windows work accurately when the pc is on power??I thought that the bios battery was only to keep time when off power...

the bios battery saves all bios settings - including time.

well the actual battery doesn't save the settings, but you know what i mean.

what I mean is that I do not mind to manually set the time when I power on the laptop but I want the correct time for the session that the power is on...that has nothing to do with the bios battery..
For this reason I need your help to repair the windows 7 part of time keeping
