repeated BSOD on start-up

I have an HP Pavilion DV7 notebook PC, running 64-by windows 7, that I had someone set up for me, and they partitioned the drive into three drives, the C: drive, with the programs, the D: drive, a recovery drive I don't really understand and never got into, and the B: Drive, where all my media files can go. This person underestimated how much space I would need on C: Drive, and ever since I've been shuffling things around trying to make it workable, deleting files, uninstalling programs, etc.…

One thing I've been doing is creating mklinks between C: drive and B: Drive, shuffling (what I thought were unnecessary) folders to B: Drive, and linking them back to C:, such as iTunes libraries, phone backups, things like that.

This had previously worked out fine, but today I might've gone a step too far. After running WinDirStat, I found Winsxs, a folder that some online research told me it was for windows updates. My (probably naïve, probably stupid) assumption was that the folder wasn't necessary except when updating Windows, so I moved it to B: drive and was about to create an mklink to the folder, but the the move paused halfway (the files were in use, which probably should probably been a clue). I went to move the files back, but there wasn't enough space on C:drive, a perennial problem, so I restarted the computer, thinking it would clear some space.

It BSOD'd on start-up, and has every time since, error message: STOP: 0x000000f4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8015A30B10, 0XFFFFFA8015A30DFO, 0xFFFFF8000358DE20)

This is true in safe mode as well.

I can't do a system restore because there's not enough space on C: drive (hurr hurr). I also tried to recover my data for a factory restore, but Start-up repair only recognizes D: drive (the one drive I never use), and even then, it freezes in the process. I'd like to recover said data before I do anything drastic (I'm a writer and illustrator, and there are a number of files I've yet to back up), and would appreciate any advice to this effect.

Thanks ahead of time,

Cris

PS- I read the post about the DM Log collector, but unless I can use it from a USB drive downloaded from a separate computer, I don't foresee being able to use it on this computer…

well.. this is a bit strange method .. but .. its called 'notepad' method.. do you have windows 7 repair ? if yes.. go to windows 7
repair .. command prompt.. and then .. type
notepad.exe
then browse for the folders you want to save and save them at wherever you want.. inclusing usb
but note: you won't be able to see the progress...only after a folder is copied you would know that it has finished.
..
if this doesn't work or want some other methods .. let me know

Notepad method worked to recover some stuff, but weirdly not the I was looking for... It read that folder as empty, which it should not have been....

I'll try the c&p method next...

I tried this, and when mini xp booted, it wouldn't recognize the original c: and b: drives. They didn't show up at all, only the cd boot drive and en external hd I happened to have connected.

As for data recovery, you may try a live Linux CD/pendrive

Prepare a Live Linux pen drive. I would recommend Lucid Puppy ( because that is the one I had used and you have some guide on using it here in SevenForums :))

Download lupu-528.005.iso (132.6 MB) from http://puppylinux.org/main/Long-Term-Supported%20Puppy.htm#lucidpuppy

Create your bootable Lucid Puppy pendrive with this ISO using Rufus 2.2 (808KB) https://rufus.akeo.ie/ (All data on the pendrive will be lost when rufus formats the pendrive before writing the ISO and so backup any data on the pendrive elsewhere before running Rufus)

Boot your PC with this pendrive using the onetime boot menu Check whether that faulty drive is shown and you can access it and see your data. If seen copy all data to the empty drive.( You must have plugged in the empty drive before booting into Lucid Puppy)

Guide on how to use Lucid Puppy :Go to the topic Recovering files from the non-bootable Internal Drive: in my thread

Well hiren cd is meant for data recovery itself but drives r not accessible so no point doing that

My dear friend nooruddin76,

Windows is Windows whether it runs internally or externally from Hiren's CD. So don't jump to conclusions.

Let the OP try Live Linux. If it works well and good. If it doesn't get on to some other recovery method.
