This Dell laptop has been getting BSOD's over and over, I have wiped ans reinstalled Windows 7 a few times with the original installation disk. Everything is fine until I finish installing the last of Windows Updates. So maybe it is an update ? I can't stay online unless I'm in Safemode Networking without getting the BSOD's. So I'm in Safemode as I post. Please bear with me as I'm new here. Let me know what you need me to do and I'm not very tech savvy.

Hello and welcome 7ate9 mate the dump has linked an issue that could possibly be a graphics problem and I suggest first up you try running a sfc and chkdsk in safe mode if you have not done them already.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

Code:
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: WIN7_DRIVER_FAULT

BUGCHECK_STR: [COLOR="Red"] 0x3B[/COLOR]

CURRENT_IRQL: 0

Plus some system specs would be really good as it is very hard to help when we do not know what the machine is or has in it
System Info - See Your System Specs
The model of the Dell woud be a start;) because it may be a driver problem.

Now can you run Speccy or not? to look for the temps please if not use the BIOS screen
Speccy - Free Download - Piriform < maybe download it on another machine if possible and run it from a stick.

The Dell model number is M5040 and I ran the SFC scan 3 times as requested with no issues found. I also updated my system specs as requested. Speccy says my temp is 30C Sorry I didn't get this info sooner and thanks for helping me. If it helps you any I have Belarc Advisor installed which as you may know lists extensive info of the computer.

Ok mate no worries re reply we have the time;) Now I think it might be an idea to start off with updating the graphics driver and this is I think the right one because the AMD site is pretty convoluted now
APU This is for the embedded GPU if it doesn't install then we might ave to look at the other type.

Hang on it's checking for solutions after going into another BSOD after the driver installed.

Update... I'm back in safemode networking as the issue still exists with endless BSOD's.

And I now see AMD Vision Engine Control Center under All Programs. Not sure if it's corrupted because of the BSOD.

Ok mate now I think this is worth a try - uninstall that AMD stuff and install the drive from the link I sent.

I am not real sure because of the Googles I have done for the AMD stuff keeps coming up with that driver and because the GPU is integrated in the CPU chip. However whatever you decide to do have you got the data on your machine backed up?? if not now might be a good time to do that.

Now if the system is BSOD all the time then you can use this to recover data it doesn't involve Windows at all.
BOOTABLE UBUNTU
Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.
There is another Linux based one here*Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS*I prefer my Ubuntu fix only because it is a little easier to set up.

Or there is this Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS I prefer Ubuntu a tad easier to set up but this does the same thing

You will of course need access to another machine to make the disk or stick, and I shall be interested how that actually goes. If you are wondering too making the disk doesn't take long nor does the boot into Ubuntu .

I don't have anything on this computer that I need to save. I re-wiped the drive again and followed Dell's directions on reinstalling with the installation disks that I have. Everything was fine until Windows Updates were installed, just like the last few times. So I wiped again and checked out Linux that you directed me to and did some research and found a distro called "Mint" was most liked. It installed and updated in about an hour.. amazing. It is still on the computer but I would rather have Windows 7 back on as I'm used to it. Do you know where I can find a solution to installing Windows Updates ?

Ok mate now if you liked Ubuntu you would like Zorin even better I have been trying it out as a dual boot with 7.

But back to what you need to do - first I don't know about how to control updates mate except that you set updates to what is in my pic and choose the ons that are either important or critical the optionals I leave alone .
Now I think it is important that you clean that drive using either DISKPART or Partition Wizard (see pic) the PW wipe takes longer but at least either will remove everything on that drive so not much chance of corruption from the previous install - well that is what I do the choice is yours. Also I think it might be as well to use the ISO from Heidoc hands clean install because it will be a "fresher" copy than what you have on those disks so include a lot of updates and it is all on one DVD.
Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool < make sure the version you pick is what you have an activation code for it should be with the machine on a sticker or the media packets - if you cannot find it then you can get it by using this
Product Key Number for Windows 7 - Find and See < I like Showkey a little more than Magic Jelly Bean but it is your choice both should give you the activation code as the same.
Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command or
Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

Now to clean the drive you will need a way of hooking up the drive to another machine to do because you cannot do the DISKPART on the machine itself. Either hook it up direct or use a dock or USB to SATA adaptor.

Ok wiped and reinstalled Windows 7 and set "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"

Also unticked "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates"

It's been checking for updates now for over 12 hours.

Yes mate the one thig I would advise you to do though is to research them first. Now as a by the by I just don't update anymore because it is nearly always optionals they come up with and the important and critical ones (usually stated as security based) never download and my machines (3) don't seem to suffer. I think probably because I am careful with security stuff and what I do on the net and because the Kaspersky I use is good plus the other two add on scanners.

But the choice is yours of course but as I said I would not lose any sleep over the optionals.

Ok mate and good luck keep in mind the checks and stuff we did for the future plus that Ubuntu stuff it could save your bacon one day ;)

Just as an after thought you might like to try this Optimize Windows 7 it is my bible when setting up my and friends machines. The only thing is that you will lose a bit of the "bling" like transparency (you don't have to) but I think it is a feature that is overrated.
All the same it will make the machine run quicker and more efficient.
