Solved Replacing Stock Heat Sink With New

Having reformatted my hard-drive in an attempt to repair a suspected memory leak I have now re-installed all of my software. At the time I understood/envisaged Dell Datasafe Restore would ensure all my data and programs would remain in place, why I will never know?! Anyway, I now lament not having taken the opportunity presented to install an Artic Freezer 7 Pro. My simple question is if I replace the Dell stock heat sink with the Freezer 7 Pro, cleaning the upper surface of the processor chip without removing it from its housing, will the OS and all installed programs remain intact?

I appreciate in advance all assistance given.

I recommend this kit and a slew of q-tips. Go slow and get all old thermal paste off both surfaces. Then place a lentil sized drop of AC-5 into the center of the CPU and install. If we can help with further instructions please just ask. Many youtube instructions also available, just remember less is more!

That kit will last many cooler changes and I love how the #1 solution breaks the paste down and will remove all trace then solution #2 which is like a quick drying vapor takes the hint of film and residue away leaving a perfectly clean and dry surface.
