Hi,

This may be a little confusing as it's not my own problem, but my parents on the other side of the country.

Basically what happened is my mom needs to use the System Restore after doing who knows what, but the only restore times available are for 10 and 15 minutes ago, which the system created automatically when she tried the restoration originally. Somehow, the restore process (evidently) erased some of her files, and some things from the desktop are missing, like Firefox.

What she needs is a restore point from at least a day ago, but it doesn't show any, and I'm at a loss to help her without seeing the computer for myself (she's kinda technologically illiterate, doesn't have any manually saved restore points or anything like that).

I'm sort of doubting there's a way to do this, but I figured I'd at least ask. Is she SOL? I've rarely had to use SR myself, so I'm a bit green on the issue as well.

I only know it's 7 Home she's running, unfortunately not if it's 32- or 64-bit, if it makes a difference in this case.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer!

Hi! ctroy8, welcome to 7F :)

When I open system restore mine only shows two restore points.

But, in the lower left corner of the dialog box there is a checkbox to show more points.

Ask your Mother if she has that checked. When I check mine it goes back at least a month.

ctoy,
I sympathize. From experience, please convince your parents to post a msg here. Trying to work thru three different levels of problem reporting results in much confusion.

ask them to post a msg, stating their problem in their words.
