1. For scanners attached to printers, do I have to keep both the Drivers->printers and Drivers->scanners? (would just leaving printers suffice)
2. For the storage controller drivers, are most of them needed when you don't have drives that are explicitly branded under the brands? For example, I see Nvidia and ATI in there, I'm not sure if they refer to something under the hood. Will the video card not function if they are removed?
3. Under Drivers->system, what are these for and are they needed.

AGP Filter (for agp graphics only?)
EAP Host (for wireless only?)
HD Audio Bus Driver (for display/usb audio only?)
Intel Quick DATA Technology device (for intel storage controllers like Ich only?)
LSI raid virtual device (for LSI raid cards only?)
IEEE 1667 (for firewire only?)
PCMCIA Controller (for notebook cards only?)
Digital Media Services (for windows media center only?)

4. Under Multimedia, and a host of other places, what are these "windows picture acquisition" and related tickboxes referring to? If they are disabled will scanners or all images not load? Because I use my devices like cameras like dumb storage devices, dragging and dropping like with any basic external drive.

5. About internet explorer, since 10 is the newest incarnation, does what comes with the disk have to be kept in order to get 10? (it has entries in both permanently remove and default features)

6. Under services, is the Group Policy Client only for creating homegroups?

7. Are Upnp features for devices in a network only? (i.e. directly plugging something into

8. Is NAP (everything related to it) for networking/hosting only?

9. For windows search, if I don't need the deep indexing feature do I remove anything from the get-go or should it be disabled after installation? (can't figure out if any of the tickboxes in rt7lite removes search completely)

Thank you.

Why are you trimming Win7, already the leanest overhead Windows ever? Is it for disk size on a netbook? This is the only reason I would consider doing so. We did plenty of testing here during beta with Vlite and found there is nothing to gain from doing this otherwise, and plenty of unintended consequences.

Win7 is already as light as it can possibly be, always instantaneous and never hangs on adequate hardware with a perfect install. Check the former with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and the latter against Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

16GB isnt much when compared to today's hard disk sizes. But the principle is that we are "doing less with more". Windows 7 doesnt have that many more features than Win XP. Yet the install is 10 times the size! Tens of thousands of files. The .Net content of Windows 7 alone is larger than a full XP install.

I can understand why some yearn for the days when an OS was well under a gig in size. Especially for a VM.

Welcome to our Forum Dexx.
Windows 7 size in GB compared to XP means nothing. It is what it is.
If you start doing things (hacks, tinkers ect) like we all did with XP you will create nothing but problems with Windows 7.
Windows 7 is bigger but better. Give yourself and Windows 7 a little time to get use to each other.
