ATM STEAM has a halloween sale.

STALKER bundle for $9.99.
Which includes 2 games: Shadow of Chernobyl & Call of Pripyat

So Im curious, is it worth getting them, or do these games have serious issues with Win 7 x64.

And No, I have not played either of them so it would be a totally new game for me (I know its been around awhile :) )

I would think at $10 for both games its probably worth it, but was just curious on everyones thoughts on these 2 games.

I've seen lots of threads complaining it doesn't work properly under Win7 x64, so just curious what everyones experiences have been with these 2 games.

Thanks.

I have Call of Pripyat and it runs very smooth (I have not had a crash or glitch once in about 10 hours of gameplay). It's a very good game and as yo said it is definitely worth it at that price.

Steam had a sale like this in August 2 STALKER games for like 10 bucks. Excellent Deal ! I jumped right at it ! I haven't played them yet though...too many other games at the moment :p

The game has serious issues everywhere.

Anyways.... if you read my post here.... http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/119495-discuss-fallout-new-vegas-10.html#post1048408 you know how I feel

The bugs and game play drove me away so I never finished it, and thus removed it from my system. There are lots of mods but I bever tried any of them since again, couldn't get past bugs. Anyways not sure how the mods will play on the Steam version.

BTW I tried the game on both Vista 32 and 64-bit Ultimate. Still major issues. Haven't tried it since moving to 7.

Good looking game... graphics wise. Since I still have my disk I might give it another try someday...

Thanks everyone.

Hmm... might go ahead and give it a try.

At 10 bucks, even if just 1 of the 2 runs well it would likely be worth it.
Might even get lucky and/or its been patched ..

SoC will crash a lot of the time on win 7 64. Overall I loved CoP. So many different ways to go thru it.

SoC has a time limit on many of the missions & CoP does not, giving you a varied approach as to what to do next.

Look out for the false ending with SoC.

I played both with no patches.

Voip. Insanely cheap phone calls.
They're both great games, also 'Clear Sky', the standalone expansion of SoC.

More than anything, the AI is an absolutetly brilliant design that should be experienced by any gamer. The system is called A-Life, and it basically gets better with each game.

The order of release is Shadow of Chernobyl - Clear Sky - Call of Pripyat.

Also they all work great with Windows 7, in fact Call of Pripyat fully supports DirectX 11, with nice Tessellation and Compute Shader 5.

Shadow of Chernobyl - Best story, and scariest
Clear Sky - Best action, role playing elements, awesome faction wars
Call of Pripyat - Best A-Life to date, awesome graphics(on a good rig) and best mission system

Though I have the boxed version of STALKER, don't have the other ones, I might give them a look on steam and get them, if the price is right. I still don't trust STALKER as I still say it's one the buggiest games I've ever played.

The buggiest was Cryostasis, and that went in the garbage

Not yet.

But I will be picking up a couple new games this weekend and Im quite certain thats going to be one of them.

I noticed on STEAM the game is only $20.
But theres a GOTY edition thats $50, which seems as it just includes all the DLC.

Is all the extra DLC worth the extra $30 though?

wishmaster, you were asking about borderlands a while back - did you try it?

Speaking of Borderlands.... a new patch is out

Level cap increase of 8 levels for all players.
- Original Borderlands players will now be able to achieve level 58.
- Owners of The Secret Armory of General Knoxx can achieve a record setting increase to a maximum level of 69.
* Enemies now scale to new level caps throughout the whole game as long as playthrough 2 has been completed.
* Item drops (with the exception of COM Decks) will now scale to new enemy level caps.
* DLC4 Achievement/Trophy glitches that have affected some users will now properly award players for obtaining these achievements.

Patches and Fixes: Borderlands v1.41 Patch (Worldwide Retail) - Demo Movie Patch Download Section - GamersHell.com

Is all the extra DLC worth the extra $30 though?

Maybe, but the two really good DLC's are General Knoxx and Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, absolutely beautiful graphic in that one.

The new DLC is Clap Trap's Robot Revolution, but I got bored and never finished it. Not saying it's bad, I'm just borderland out.

At 10 bucks a piece, you'll probably get two, so....

And be aware that this game was really designed to be played with others, so the single play can become easy after leveling up. That's another reason I got bored after awhile, too easy in single player mode.

I do appreciate all the input on Borderlands.

With all the info Ive learned about it, I think I'll probably just get the basic game with no DLC. Not quite decided yet.

Heres my thing.
Since Im more of a RPG gamer, I tend to get bored of games like this quite quickly.
I mean I like FPS, but can only play them for a short time before moving to something else.

take Left For Dead series for example. Good game, and I do like it.
But, I can start a game of it, even online and play for 2-3 hrs or so and enjoy it. But then Im extremely bored of it and move to another game.

I will come back to it a few days later and play another couple hours.

Good games, but for me I can only play a limited time before becoming bored of them.

Im thinking Borderlands may fall into this category for me, then again you never know.

So it might not be worth all the extra DLC, at least for me.

Borderlands single play mode....

Only played in single mode play.

I loved borderlands to a certain point. But again, in single player mode, the higher you level up, the easier the game becomes. Unfortunately at some point your skill lever becomes greater than even bosses.

I've killed major bosses with low level weapons without so much as losing a quarter of my shields, let alone health. At that point the game becomes boring since it’s not challenging anymore.

With that said, it is a fun game, I personally loved the look and graphics, the opening and closing soundtracks are outstanding, and it’s an open world with plenty of side missions.

There are currently 4 DLC’s released, but the two I really enjoyed are The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, and The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. The other DLC that I have but haven’t finished is Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution.

All in all the game is fun, but after a while it starts to get boring since you’re basically doing to same thing, mainly long range fetch and get, or assassinations.

Here’s some links on the game -
- Borderlands Wiki - Walkthroughs, Weapons, Classes, Character builds, Enemies, DLC and more!
- Borderlands Review: Guns! Guns! Guns!

Is it worth 50 bucks with all the DLC included.... Single player mode... maybe, multiplayer mode, yeah. And this new patch may spruce things up.... Borderlands v1.41 Patch (Worldwide Retail)

Just picked up Borderlands.
Interesting game TBH, so far I am really enjoying it.

Im only Lvl 11 atm, and seems it starting to get a bit more fun now, now that its starting to open up and I have the training out of the way.
I might have to get some of the DLC afterall :)

Just curious, how big is this game?
Still in the first area, but from looking at the map it looks like its going to be quite large.
