I have an older asrock dual sata board, bought a hard 250gb barracuda drive, installed it. It shows up in the bios as working, shows up on post as enabled, but does not show up in windows 7. I read around and also tried to assign a drive number to it, but it does not show up there either.

I have tried running it in IDE mode and still get nothing. but I tested the drive in an xp system and it works fine. On one restart after installing the drive it said it needed ULi SATA/RAID Controller (M1689/M1695) driver. I got them, but they wouldn't install, but then I ran them in vista mode, however they didn't fix the issue. Anyone have anything else I can try?

What was the drive formated as (ntfs)?

It might be a permissions problem see here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Are you able to show us a screenshot of what it shows in device manager? Does Windows update offer any driver downloads for you?

I fixed it by unplugging all my other drives, sticking my xp disk in and when windows set up came up, formatted the drive into ntfs.

Thanks, Fireman...
I thought the newly added unformatted would show in the bios (it did) as well as
listed in 'My Computer. MIA in My Computer. I was perplexed? Your post...go to Disk management... quickly remedied the problem and once it was formatted it appeared with a new Drive letter.
Thanks...
