saving DVD's to a HDD (speed up process)

I wasn't sure where to post this, so General looked like a good spot.

I have a very small collection of DVD (and some Blu-ray) movies. I already have the software to do this. My question has to do with hardware. Would an internal DVD or Blu-ray drive be faster than a external USB 2.0 drive? I'm using the external drive to do this as I don't have an internal drive. I also never timed how long the process takes so I can't be sure if it's slow or indeed fast and I'm just thinking it takes too long.

I think the internal combo: cd-dvd reader/writer & Blu-Ray reader -- would be somewhat faster. Since this is a desktop, perhaps consider a PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse -- such would not only be faster KB & MSE response but perhaps also take some of the "busyness" out of the usb operations. Others here can finesse my comments!

I would say that using an external or internal CD/DVD won't make any difference. I have an internal CD/DVD (Blue Ray) and it's slow. The SATA interface is faster then USB, but USB is much faster than disk read.

I personally use a internal for 2 reasons.

1. You can use a sata port.
2. You have a direct connection with the power supply.
