Saving system image to external HD

In Backup one can choose to create a System Image and choose "On a hard disk". However, Backup does not see my attached external HD.

How is it attached? Something like Macrium Reflect Free may be a bit more versatile.

I've always used 3rd party backup software. Perhaps someone else with experience will answer your question directly.
