...The problem with fixed/land line coms is that the sending party can still hold your line open and it is a relatively new scam. If you get off the line and dial say your bank then it is best to make sure that you have made the circuit switched connect to who you want and not speaking to the con artists. Dial a known number eg. the speaking clock (does that still exist?).

I got rid of my land line because of phone spammers, especially the lowlifes that robo dial (may they roast!). I now have my cordless home phones connected to a Straight Talk cellular home connect transceiver that uses the Verizon cellular network. The silence has been golden now that I don't get phone spam from robo dialers.

I'm on the list to stop unwanted calls plus I'm ex-directory, I get a few still come through but not that many. I don't bother answering the phone when it shows International but I have to answer Withheld calls because it could be the doctor as they're always on those calls.

Personally I just unplug the phone from the wall.
Because of the elections go on now this method also stops all those surveys calls.

While it is highly unlikely you would get charged for it, saying your NSA Security is technically illegal (as is claiming to be any police officer or government agent). It's the reason I only named my Wi-Fi networks Surveillance Van 42 and Surveillance Van 42.5 instead of Police Surveillance Van or FBI Surveillance Van (one of my neighbors' network is named "I Love Robbery and Fraud").

For three months before the last Presidential elections and for one month afterward, I had all my phone ringers turned off and let my answering machine fill up. That's when I decided it was time to lose the landline although that didn't happen until several months ago

I now no longer have a land line. If my two cell phone numbers get any political robo-calls, I'm taking that candidate to small claims court for theft of service (they aren't the one paying my phone bill and I didn't give them permission to use my phone number) and invasion of my peace and quiet and my privacy (also, it is illegal to robo-call a cell phone).

The bad grammar, capitalization, and punctuation alone are dead giveaways that this is bogus. Judging by the dropped articles, I would say this originated in Asia.

That phone number has also been used in BOA phishing schemes.

Got my first NEW scam call last week from "Windows Licensing"...my Windows license is now invalid and they will shut off my computer in several days if I don't call the (855) phone number right away.

I just remembered the video about the scammer accidentally calling a group of people he scammed including police (The cop was trying to call the scammer's number and suddenly heard people cursing and the officer realized he's in a group call when the victims told him)

The misbegotten lowlife probably bought it as part of a spam email list. People's emails are constantly being harvested by hackers and sold in lists to the nefarious.

A truly cosmic 419 email scam concerning the ill-fortune of a Major Abacha Tunde has been doing the rounds on social media.

The email claims the astronaut has been trapped on the long-deorbited Soviet Salyut 6 space station since 1989 but now wants to come home and just needs some bank details and $3 million to get back to Earth.

It adds: “In the 14 years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $15 million. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association.
“If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $3 million. In order to access this trust fund we need your assistance.
