School MSDNAA License Transfer

Hello all,

I have gone to a school that granted me access to the school's MSDNAA portal where I picked up a license for Windows 7 a few years ago and currently use it on my computer. I will be building a new computer and will be discarding my current computer. I would like to know if it is possible to transfer the license from the old computer to the new computer, given that this is not your standard retail license. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Hi LicenseQuestion and Welcome to Seven Forums. First exactly what kind of licence do you have? If you have an OEM licence this cannot be moved it stays with the machine for life. If you have an Academic licence you generally have to be attending a recognised school, college or University enrolled in further eduction, a faculty staff member or teaching to use the licence. If it is a retail licence then you can move it around in relative freedom as long as it is not on more than one PC at a time.

I am not sure what type of license it is but I would think that it is an academic license since it is coming from msdnaa website through my school. Are these transferrable?

Have you asked at the school, seeing as they would hold the multi user licence & they should know if it can be transferred.

It does very much depend on the license type - we may be able to assist and advise if you post an MGADiag report - but your first questions should be to the school's IT department.
