Scratched my Motherbaord

I've had a quick look at the photos, and there seems to be some damage to the tracks surrounding the mounting hole. I would expect that there will be similar damage around the other holes, but to what extent I don't know. Incidentally, with motherboard design consideration has to be given to timing and synchronisation between the various components. It is for that reason that, if you examine a motherboard, you will notice that the tracks follow a somewhat convoluted path. This is to ensure that the signals flowing along the tracks arrives at exactly the right time. The thickness and resistance of these tracks is critical, particularly at the higher frequencies.

I got another doubt. I read somewhere that nail polish is flammable when heated. If this is the case then will it be fine in motherboard. Also, any idea at what temperature it fires up and does it fire up in dry state?

But as per dwarf there are many layers and due to scratch internal layers might be damaged. I don't really want to buy a new motherboard knowing that this might be fine, but still i don't want to damage other parts of my pc (cpu, ram) by using the mobo.

looking at the photos' it looks like surface damage only ,Dwarf is correct in what he states as the mobo being multilayer and if sufficient depth of scratch as occured , then you would be looking at interconnection between the outer and inner layers of the board ,but in your case i personnally dont think the scratch is that deep ;)

I wouldn't have recommended the simple tests had I thought that scratch was extremely deep. I think you are in luck and it is a surface scratch. Cover it with a few layers of clear nail polish and you should be fine. Nail polish is flammable in it's liquid state, but as it dries, it becomes a flammable, but not a combustible, as in it will burn, but only when exposed to flame, not any heat that it will see from a motherboard.

Hi,
First, I would not use a 9V battery to perform any tests. Since you don't know where those traces go, you could damage components that are connected with that much voltage.

There is no danger as the circuit is completed between the wires and includes only the trace that is between the wires. It is effectively a short circuit.

Just on visual inspection from the pictures. I'd agree that just the outer coating was scratched from the traces. It doesn't seem to have dug into the substrate, or severed any traces. A Guy

Whats the difference between a clear nail polish and normal. I used normal nail polish that was blue in color. Though it was non conducting as i checked.
After reading comments I have to change my mind. In night i decided to get a new GA-X58A-UD7 but after reading 2 more +ve comments it feels like stick with this.

Clear nail polish is see through. ;) It's a great motherboard, you won't be disappointed if it works :)
