Hi

I have a random problem with my graphics. The screen goes black and then comes back. I get a message stating "the display driver stopped responding but has now recovered".

This happens constantly when my son plays video games on the computer. Once not long ago the screen went black and the computer started making a funny shuttering noise and the computer had to be turned off and then restarted.

Sometimes the screen goes blue and it says there is no HDMI signal. It has a Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 TI Graphics

This is not a very old computer. Maybe 2 years old. Good specs. Checked it for dust today. Cleaned filter mesh in front of case but overall it seemed OK. Upgraded graphics driver with Geforce Experience

Thanks

Hey scoobydog,

I am assuming you are referring to your Nvidia GeForce GTX 550TI?

Please can follow these instructions and let me know if it fixes your graphics card issue:

  1. Run the Guru3D Display Drivers Removal Tool: Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 15.3.0.0
  2. Download CCleaner here and run both the Cleaner and the Registry Cleaner to remove left-over keys.
  3. Go into C:\Program Files & C:\Program Files (x86) & C:\ProgramData and delete any leftover Nvidia files.
  4. Disable automatic driver installation: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2500967
  5. Restart Computer.
  6. After restart go to: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and install the latest Nvidia Package (Including the 3D Vision Drivers - Install it all).
  7. Re-enable the automatic driver installation: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2500967
  8. Run CCleaner again (as instructed in Step 2).
  9. Restart Computer.
Hopefully this should solve your problem.

Let me know how it goes,

Hi

My son has test driven it with one of his games for the last 3 hours and it hasn't blacked out once. :-) So it looks like it's fixed. Thanks a lot.
One small problem though. When I ran the registry cleaning thing it's deleted a registry entry for my DVD rom drive. Now windows can't see it and it has a question mark in device manager on it.

Thanks

Glad to know it's fixed!

Now for your DVD issue, what is the name/model number of your CD/DVD drive?

Did your DVD drive come with a CD?

Thanks

It's a LG drive. U till now I didn't know it had a disk. All came in a box when I got computer. Anyway found the disk, put it in , light flashes , light goes out and then nothing. It's like it's not reading the data off the disk. I can't find a model numbe on the cd or on the drive face. The drive is not visible in Ny Computer.

Cheers

Do you have a second DVD Drive you could use?

If not, do this:

  1. Go To Device Manager
  2. Click on the DVD drive with the triangle on it
  3. Uninstall it
  4. Restart PC
Let me know what happens.

Uninstalled drive via device manager, restarted and windows attempted to install driver. Windows failed to install driver.

If you double click on DVD in device manager this is the message you get. "Windows cannot start this hardware because its configuration (in the Registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19)"

Hope that helps ;-)
