Screen saver won't come on.

I have been having issues with my screen saver. No matter what the time I set it for it will not turn on. When I test it, it works just fine. I also have the computer set to turn off the monitor after a set time and that too is not happening. I was noticing that when ever there were updates to be installed that it wouldn't go to screen saver but there are no updates to be installed right now. I do not have a wireless mouse or keyboard everything is via USB.

I checked that link and downloaded the first one but it didn't help. The second part on that page doesn't apply to me as I am running home edition

right ok what power settings are you using?

I have it set on balanced.....the monitor is supposed to turn off after 5 minuets right now...
