Solved seagate 3tb expansion with windows 7 dont work

It will definitely support the 2tb.

As to the 3tb, plug it in BEFORE you turn on the pc. Start up and enter BIOS and see if it is recognized.
You should download and print out the manual. Info will be in there on many things you may want to decide about.

If all is well, remember to never just pull it out while the machine is on. Either do a proper dismount or wait until you shut down.

Hi samueltrepanier

well Ubuntu has a great feature by default in it that, I cant see where Microsoft 7 has this.
but the funny thing was windows XP could view the drive & access the files but I still didn't have any idea about the HD had bad clusters. But with Ubuntu you can still view your hard drive even if it is stuffed I.E. bad clusters & it tells you how many bad clusters you have in that HD without finding and installing a program that suits your needs.

in my case I purchased this new 3TB HD & was working for the first few weeks & then just stopped. I have never came across this before especially with Seagate. I thought it many have been a windows problem but it wasn't the HD was stuffed and this is due to demand and quality assurance of all computer equipment cannot be maintained, they would prefer to replace the item.

if your HD cant be found by windows like in my pictures shows then I am suggesting your HD is stuffed & if it is new then replace it, this will mean you will lose your data, I always keep a back up in 2 different drives, but that is just me.

does this help you???

Hi Stereo,

I found this "GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ... 2x8GB DDR3 1333 | Crucial M4 64GB & Seagate 3TB"

I hope this has helped but most hardware these days do support these sizes but brands make the difference some brands are not supported which I have found out the hard way. however I would in this case stick to Seagate & use the 3TB for your motherboard. I am not a hardware wizard I would email the manufacture is you want to be 100% sure this is what I am now doing if I cant find the information that I am looking for on the manufacturers URL.

A possible solution

In case someone is still facing the problem of external HDs not being recognized and not even showing in "My Compute"r or in "Disk Management" (as I had), what I did was the following:
1. Open "Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controllers",
2. Look for the USB "Mass Storage Device" and uninstall it by selecting it and hitting the "Uninstall" menu button at the top (with the red X on it),
3. Do a "Scan for hardware changes", the system will find and install the appropriate drivers and you should be able to find and use your device now.
I hope this helps.
