I had a GoFlex at one point. Now I have a 2.5" - 500GB internal hard drive that I use for backups. Excellent hard drive. But I had nothing but trouble using the external hard drive.

I found that the bridge connector - the portion of the external drive that plugs into the standard SATA connectors on the 2.5" drive - was loose. If I applied pressure in and up I could get it to connect. If I let go it disconnected.

Decision time: You can pry the bridge connector off of the external shell casing. This will expose the SATA connectors. Unfortunately the casing is in the way of the normal connectors you would use to connect it to a desktop. This means you must pry open the casing to remove the standard 2.5" hard drive inside. This will void any warranty if there is one still valid. So there's the decision: data or warranty? No warranty, no decision - remove the drive.

Now connect the drive directly to the PC like any other SATA hard drive. You should be able to get to your data that way.
If the drive is not recognized (in BIOS or Windows) connected directly then it may be defective. Post back if this is the case.
