Well do not waist your time with the sata 3! It does not appear faster or worth the money. I found one miss priced and decided to try it. HDtune did not impress me with the results.

Does your computer support SATA III 6G? Only the very newest machines do?? Did you buy an new SATA III Card?

Your machine SPECs only show support for SATA II 3G.

The Asus board I have supports Sata 3...Asus P6X58D..also the Rampage extreme 3,new gigabyte UD9 i think does also.
So yes the newest on market and top end at that have it.

According to Asus' web site the motherboard you have listed only supports SATA II 3G. I am not trying to upset you I am just trying to point out that if your motherboard only supports SATA II 3G then installing a SATA III 6G hard drive will NOT gain any performance because the motherboard does not support it. I just want your tests to be fair and make sure that you are testing a drive in a way that will truly show its performance.

@ simmo, If you look at my screen shot I think you may be confusing SATA 3 Gb/s with SATA III they are not the same thing.

FYI: No single mechanical harddisk can use 100% of SATA II 3Gb/s bandwidth, thus with SATA III 6Gb/s, you won't get any performance increase AT ALL. It's mechanical limitation, you can only spin the disk that fast, faster will yield mis-read/writes. If you want to get the speed, use a SATA III 6Gb/s SSD, or connect a SATA III 6Gb/s port to a compatible SATA multiplier, and use 4+ harddisk using 1 SATA port.

What you see in your test is the characteristic of a mechanical HDD, nothing new...

It's unfortunate though how many people don't realize these facts and go ahead with hardware purchases thinking it will yield a good difference.

My board supports SATA III 6g, but as of right now, it isn't being used. Still waiting for prices to come down and more product selection.

About the only plus is that it is 64MB buffer. I did not expect it to run like an SSD but I did expect better results then what I found. As far as price I figured as it was just $150 I would get it. Just to have the 2TB space if nothing else. Oh, I did mention that it was miss priced at Best Buy. The little tag said $150 and listed the drive. I had to argue with them until the manager finally gave in and said to do it at that price.

I have the P6X58D Premium that does support 2 of the Sata 3

Have you ran the HD Tune on this HDD plugged into the SATA2 (3Gb/s) port?

Would expect it to be the same, but would be interesting to see it confirmed

Umm it does indeed support sata 3 6gb..has 2 ports..Marvell controller but you cant use in raid

You are confusing this Thread. Yes YOUR motherboard supports SATA III however the OP's motherboard does NOT. Please don't confuse the OP. Please check my links on the OP's motherboard. Thank you.
