Used to be when clicking a shortcut for a file or program that has been moved, Windows would do a brief search for the missing target. Now it has become lazy and just offers to delete the offending shortcut. How do I get the search feature back?

Hi jopa66,

I think to save yourself a lot of time and effort it would be much quicker to delete the existing shortcut and then locate the file and create another shortcut for it.

I hope this helps!

Appreciate your response and yes that is a viable option. It's just that something is broke and I'd like to fix it. Strange thing - all of a sudden Windows also started showing "- shortcut" to newly created shortcuts although this is something I did away with a long time ago. Was able to fix that fairly easily but can't track down the solution to the issue I'm inquiring about here.

Maybe Microsoft changed how this function works.
