Solved Seeking new hard drive

I can't say what other have experienced with drives, I know I've also read several posts where Western Digital drives have had their electronics fail. I can attest that I have dealt with a couple bad from the box, and a couple that failed within a year, (onboard electronics took a dump)

Yea, they replaced them, but what a hassle with the lost data.

BTW: they were not mine, clients drives

Awesome!

When I decide to install a new drive, I do a full system image & verify integrity, everything on the drive, to an external hard drive, then I restore the image to the new drive. Works every time.

I use AOMEI Backupper free. Easy to use, simple to understand GUI Graphical User Interface.

Happy Computing!

Looks like climbing down off the fence paid off in the long run!

Before you posted about the different tech getting it to work, I was going to suggest that the problem could be with the tech.

In regards to Western Digital drives, I've not had any problems with them and I haven't seen them downplayed by others before. Usually someone will say to avoid Seagate drives but I haven't had issues with those either.

I have a few Seagate backup drives.
The drives that had issues with were a specific few 4-5 years ago.
3TB variants like the Barracuda 3TB HDD, and the Backup Plus 3TB HDD,
From Seagate Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Extremely High ...
My Backup Plus is 4TB HDD, no problems with it.
Always prudent to check reviews from reputable sources, more than one. I ALWAYS do !

I also have a few Seagate backup drives 5TB and 8TB (2 of each) which I haven't had any issues with. I have a 3TB Seagate internal drive in my main system. It's about 4-5 years old, runs 24/7, never had any issue with it.

Reviews are fine if you need to know about the performance of the drive and other similar characteristics but a review can't tell you much about reliability. Most reviewers review a single drive and the reliability of a single drive is statistically meaningless.

That's why someone on this (or any other forum) stating this brand drive is good or this brand is bad is not really valid. Unless the person making that statement has tested enough of those drives to be statistically valid, it's just opinion.

A personal example of what I'm talking about is the brand new 1984 Toyota Camry I purchased in Nov of 1983. It was the absolute least reliable car I have ever owned and due to my experience with it, I will never (and have never) buy another Toyota vehicle. But most reviewers and owners consider their Toyota vehicle to be one of the most reliable vehicles. Statistically, my Toyota ownership experience is meaningless.
