Hi all,

I recently had a really anoying virus which would not go away, after 7 days of fighting with it I decided the best course of action would be to format and reinstall win 7.

However now my PC is super slow, I cannot open desktop items, without right clicking and selecting "Run as Admin" and even that is really slow.

If I right click and select "Personalize" it hangs for ages then says "Server Execution Failed".

Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix these issues?

You need to provide more information - filling out your system specs is necessary so we know what hardware you have. Without that information, I can only guess that you didn't install any drivers for your system, and that's why it's not working as expected.

Also if I go to Control Panel select Device Manager it just hangs for about 5 minutes and then nothing happens.

Do not use any tool like driver detective. You need to go to the manufacturer websites and download the drivers for your hardware. Also, you didn't list your hardware - what you posted doesn't really do any good. At the bottom of your post, there is a link called "My System Specs" - you need to fill that out.

Hi Kego, I've updated my stats.

Whats the best way to find the manufactuere drivers for my hardware... and do you think my issues are driver related?

If I goto device manager the only warning I see is under "System Devices"
"Intel(R) Turbo Book Technology Driver"
I then right click on that and search for Drivers, the message I get back is:
"The best driver software for your device is already installed"

Is there a way I can tell which drivers are out of date and which ones I need to update?

Another thing I noticed was, I can open programs from the desktop if I right click and open as admin... however I still receive the error message "Server Execution Failed" If I right click and select "Personalize" or "Screen Resolution", the same thing happens if I open Control Pannel and try to select a folder or option.

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, open up the case and look, or reboot and enter the BIOS and look for the model information. Who built this PC? You should have been provided some sort of list of the hardware used.

The other hardware is pretty easy to figure out - go to the device manager and look at the video card, audio, etc - then just visit the manufacturer's website and download the drivers for your hardware.

There's an existing thread in here about the "server execution failed" message, as I posted in it recently. Check it out to see if that helps.

For the slowness, I believe that it's a combination of incorrect drivers and possibly the virus again - especially if you accessed drives/discs/etc (that were connected to your system while you had the virus) before you installed anti-virus software after installing Windows 7 again.
