i want to know setting a service to manual means it starts when it is needed
but after it's not needed does the service stop instanly or does it take
time to stop

Just a word of caution, if you're not sure it may be better not to change settings of services as it is possible to disable the PC by doing so.

To put it in a nutshell, selecting manual may or may not cause the service to start when needed. When making changes of this sort, do them one at a time, so that you can determine if it will function properly or not. Chances are, once the service is started, it will remain so until you reboot. It is a good idea to only reset one service at a time, because services are often interdependent, and disabling one may disrupt others unexpectedly. If you check, Black Viper does list interdependent services.

If your purpose is to reduce boot time, you might consider using the "automatic delay" setting.
