Hello, I've been doing research on how I can set up my free Yahoo account with Windows Live Mail. After spending several hours researching it, I've came across several different responses. Some people say that it can not be done, others say that it can be. What's the truth?

I'm not sure how I can do it. I was going by the one post that I found on this website, but it still won't allow me to use it. I know how to look for the properties and change things through there, but I just can't figure it out. I tried multiple things and looked on different websites.

Is this at all possible to do or should I stop wasting my time looking for how to do it? It'd be nice to be able to use my Windows Live Mail with my Yahoo account, but I guess I can't unless I pay for it. It's not that I would have a problem paying for it, it's just that I keep thinking of different E-mail address that's cooler than the previous one. Essentially, I can't decide what to keep.

If it is possible, can someone please help me? If it's not let me know and I'll stop trying. I'd like to know either way here. Thanks for all your help!

You can forward messages from the free Yahoo mail account to Windows Live Mail thats what I do.
What's the difference between email forwarding and POP access?
Email forwarding and POP access are two separate tools that help you access your Yahoo! Mail from a different email account. Choose only one, whichever fits your needs better—they won't work at the same time.

With email forwarding, you'll automatically receive email addressed to your Yahoo! Mail account at your forwarding address. New email will not appear in your Yahoo! Mail Inbox while the forwarding feature is activated. Messages you received before you enabled email forwarding remain in your account.

POP access allows you to send and receive Yahoo! Mail using an email client (such as Netscape Mail, Outlook, or Eudora). If you select POP access, messages will appear in your Yahoo! Mail Inbox. Depending on how you configure your email client, you can either leave messages in your Yahoo! Mail Inbox or have them deleted when you download them elsewhere.

When you're using POP access, you can only retrieve email from your Inbox and Spam folder—the feature doesn't look for new mail in your other folders. So if you're checking your Yahoo! Mail from another account, you should delete any filters you might have set up that sort email to folders other than the Inbox.
You can only use POP if you use the paid Yahoo Mail Plus account .

Yes you can get Windows Live Mail to read your Yahoo emails & it's quite easy to do. The same applies to Gmail.

Log into your Yahoo (or Gmail) account via your browser.
Find the options & enable IMAP

Now in WLM set up a new email account & fill in the details as you would for any other email.

Edit: There is a tutorial already on this forum

I checked my Yahoo Mail options and IMAP option not available and the tutorial is for Plus version. I use this add-on for FireFox to auto check my yahoo account.

Apologies. Seems like Yahoo has changed things since I last looked.

My free account is Yahoo Mail Classic & I use WL Mail to read Yahoo emails.

According to this link, Ypops can be used but I have no idea if it actually works,
- How to Access Free Yahoo! Mail with Windows Live Mail - About Email

For Gmail the settings are in Mail Options then the Forwarding & POP/IMAP tab.
