Why not try the qnap finder software, from this link

QNAP Systems, Inc. - Network Attached Storage (NAS)

Ive got several Nasses and have to use the Dlink finder to access my cruddy DStink nas evertime its turned on, but the others appear in explorer immediately their switched on? You could also use a lan scanner to find its ip address, and then access its web configuration. The manual is also on Qnaps website. Make Google your friend.

Thanks. I have this programme, I have launched it and I still cannot see the NAS on Windows Explorer or on the software I am planning to use to access the NAS.

NAS people tell me it is a Windows problem... I live in the bush, so I am ....

I did finally manage to see ALL 3 PC's, but that has been my only victory today. The new PC also seems a little stuffed, as it will not accept me loading Firefox or Teamviewer.

Just as an aside.... I use Team Viewer because I have tried and read the on-line instructions but Remote Access will not work and I really do not understand it.

There should be step-by-step guides, like picture books for kids, we all need the pictures because not everyone knows PC's as well as the experts. Ask my wife to do an oil change in a car....

Can anyone help??

Hi foxint,

Here are my TeamViewer instructions

I put together a 2 HD DLink NAS. But the install disk would not work on a 32 bit Win7 Home premium computer I had on the network. But a Windows XP Pro computer used the Dlink install disk and had it set up in just a few minutes. I was dumbfounded & surprised. But happy that everything works now.

It sometimes helps to adjust the Lanman server and encryption settings in order to get the NAS working with Windows 7. The adjustments in the link need to be on the Windows 7 machines that need to access the NAS.

Solved W2K3 Server can access W8 W8 computer cant see W2K server

Hi Guys,

All the comments are great – thank you.

I do not understand a word of what you said. It is all totally foreign to me. I did actually get the NAS-man to remotely set up the NAS and it is working now. But I have networking problems with windows. So I suppose this is typical with Windows, solve one probalme and get another. Now my local network is stuffed.

My DStink nas appears in explorer on my xp pro pc, but has to be coaxed into life on the win 7 home premium 32bit pc. Unless i run the dlink easyfind, and then enter the nas configuration, change nothing, save the changes that werent made, and exit. Only then is it visible to the win7 pc, and after that it works perfectly. Strange because I can ping it ok, and if I run lanscanner it reports it as "Alive". I guess its a similar issue to yours? The dlink forum was about as useful as a ashtray on a motorbike.

All I can say, is the advice may be great. But I do not understand a word of it, and when I follow the steps, there are steps missing, that I would know if I knew, but I do not know and I get stuck.

I have no idea what the NAS-Man did, so if I have to do it again I will have to ask him to remotely access my PC.

No hard feeling, it is just the advice assumes you have a degree in computing which I do not.
