I'm looking to setup a connection between my windows 7 pc, and my windows xp pro.

I have a crossover cable.

The windows 7 connects to the internet, however I DO NOT!!!!! want the xp pro to be able to.

I do want the machines to share files, and be able to remote shutdown the xp pro.

Can someone tell me how I should set up the TCP/IP's?

You can use ZoneAlarm on both machines.

The 7 machine will be the ICS/NAT gateway.

The XP machine would then be setup as the client.

Then you can password protect the ZA so it can not be changed by anyone else and set permissions in it for either machine to allow or disallow anything you want.

Sorry torrentg dont think I was two clear.

I just want to setup the TCP/IP for a LAN (without internet access)

At the moment i'm using

10.1.1.1
255.255.255.0
Windows 7

10.1.1.2
255.255.255.0
xp pro

This is working, and the windows 7 can see the xp pro and ping 10.1.1.2, and rdp to it

But, the xp pro can not find the files on the windows 7 machine or ping 10.1.1.1
It just times out.

This I believe is stopping my remote shutdown.

Any ideas?

p:s: I have also noticed that whenever I go in the TCP/IP intpro4 setup for tha LAN network on the windows 7, this is defaulting to 192.168.127.1 (although 10.1.1.1 is still in the list of ip address)

Dameware NT Utilities is excellent for remote desktop and remote controlling a pc as admin (with or without seeing the desktop.)

I understand. You want to deny internet access to the XP machine and I told you how to do that.

If you want to share files across systems, see this link:
