When I try to get to setup (F10 on my computer) it requires a password-I never set one.

System Restore (msconfig) shows only 1 or 2 cores not the 4 it used to show. (Quad 4 processor)

You can reset the BIOS (and password) by removing the coin battery and waiting 2 minutes.
As the computer is 5 years old, I would replace it with a new. (CR2032 ?)

Replaced the battery, but both problems still exist.
Note: After three attempts (Enter) to enter ?Password" I can get into windows, as before.

In your 1st post you talk about the bios (setup)

In your 2nd reply you talk about windows.

Please tell us, what are you talking about ?????

Mega, you do not have to remove the battery for 2 minutes

Pull the power cord, and/or shut off the power supply if it has a switch, drain the power by holding down the power button for 5 seconds.

Then touch bare metal in a few places on the pc.

Remove the battery for 5 seconds, 10 seconds if you`re really bored :)

Or just use the jumper pin to reset the bios if it has one, much easier then removing the battery.

I was not talking about the Bios. I was talking about trying to get into setup as you boot. I never heard about Setup (F10 on my computer requiring a password. The computer itself doesn't have a password.
I changed the battery as in my previous response.
It did not work.

Setup is the Bios.

Are you the original owner of the PC ?

A password can only be created after you`re in the bios, done by the original owner or someone else down the line.

As you have found out, removing the battery does not always remove the password, if all else fails, contact the motherboard or PC manufacturer.

Other then that, what "Setup as you boot" are you talking about ?

F10 Setup is beyond the windows setup. After you get in there is a screen with some possible items F9, F10, Esc, wtc. that this where this occutrs not at the windows boot.
