Dude! Great topic....sort of. I'll give you my reasons why I choose Seven over XP and Vista:

  1. Better looking: sure, you can skin XP to look great, but Seven looks great out of the box.
  2. Easiest and fastest install of all Microsoft OS': seriously, this one is a no brainer. With XP and Vista, I have to have my drivers from my original discs, then once I am able to get online (after installing my ethernet driver), I then have to update all my drivers. With Seven, I'm good to go with everything except audio and video drivers (for their respective third party cards) after a quick 15-minute install. XP and Vista take in excess of 30 minutes to install, plus another hour (give or take) to get setup.
  3. UAC doesn't bug me in Seven, erked my ass in Vista.
  4. If I want to use XP for whatever reason, well then I'll just launch my Virtual XP Mode from within Windows 7. Now I have the best of both worlds!
  5. Games play smoother: this could be placebo effect, but it seems like my games play smoother in Windows 7 than XP or Vista...especially Vista.
  6. No Blue Screens: I can't stress this one enough. With both XP and Vista, I experienced many, many, many blue screens. I have not seen a blue screen since last October when I started using Windows 7. "What's a blue screen?" That should be Microsoft's motto for this release. Now, I'm sure other people have experienced blue screens, but this one is a major plus for Windows 7 for me since I have not.
  7. I've only had two compatibility issues with Windows 7 thus far. The first is with Punkbuster and the second is some strange problem where my iPod won't sync. Neither of those are deal breakers for me since I primarily game on Steam and the iPod in question is older than dirt and I only use it to take with me to the ***. Even with XP I had Punkbuster issues...lots of them in fact.
  8. By using Windows 7, I get to be a part of an inner circle...the SevenForums.com circle. If you continue to use XP and plan to do so, why are you even on this website in the first place?

As far as point 8 is concerned...some people like to say with the times and are curious...nothing wrong with that. Remember being on sevenforums warrants no use of 7 to be so...

Indeed it did...I would have loved to debate this down the road when valid rebuttals and points could be made in comparisons

mmm, 7 is all but done. I don't see it maturing as the others since the OS model as given by MS is on the way of the dinosaurs.

I guess this is about as good as it'll get.

I specuate that 7 will have 2 SPs while Windows 8 may introduce a complete revision to the desktop OS

that i could do the same thing in CDOS better and more efficient then in Windows 7 the only the W7 GUI is prettier (and a resource hog.)

I was afraid that was what you meant. :D

So you could do 3D studio Max renderings, with physics, kinetix, fog, antialiasing 1600x1200 pixels in only 2 hrs on that thing?

Or 64 channels of audio and midi playing simultanious with 11 virtual instruments, and a heap of effects, while recording a 65th track, without a glitch in the audio? (note: XP would miserably fail at this)

Unlimited layers of nondestructive editing in Photoshop 64bit?

Advanced High Definition and nondestructive video editing with multiple video and audio tracks?

And you say all that Win7 has in favor compared to CDOS is the GUI?

Here's what I think:
The only difference between an "Airbus 380" and a "Fokker FVII trimotor" is the paintjob. :p

yes, thats also my idea. Only the 2 sps wont be years apart. So there will be no 8 years of maturing. So comparing XP to 7 is a valid preposition since there will be no real improvement but bugfixes. Which it has a lot.

I just don't feel that comparing 7 without a SP is appropiate...Those very bugfixes introduced in SPs make a world of a difference...

Notable Examples-
Windows XP SP1-SP2...I just can't iterate enough of how big that one was
Windows Vista PreSP1-SP1...Copying files inside the OS was a resonable task again
Windows Vista SP1-SP2...An all around improvement to the OS...I feel it is very solid now
Windows 98-98SE...Now while not marketed as a Service Pack...it was one on steriods...to many things were improved

mmm, yeah that's true. Problem is the sort of OS such as Windows 7 is just the summit of all that went before in developmental terms.

It's just not going to get better in MS's business model. Innovation is not their thing to put it mildly.

Indeed....innovation will probably their catchline and their business model for Windows 8 or they risk the average consumer questioning an upgrade.XP->Vista was not favorable for most users until SP2...now it is a valid proposition. VistaSP2->7 is a valid proposition to take advantage of improvements to the NT6.1 Kernel and the desktop. If Windows 8 is just an improvement of the NT6.1-6.2 ideology than I will find it hard myself to upgrade from Windows 7

There is absolutely no (good) reason for anyone to still be using vista after w7 comes out, thats how i feel anyway.

My funny remark was meant to be ironic, not sarcastic. (just for the record)

I am just a bit irrita..... surprised to see so many of your negative posts on Win7 and now MS.

I see your specs saying Win7 and Vista and I just wonder why you are not on MAC or Linux or CDOS or even XP, if you think they are superior?

Why would you install that non innovative crap (to put it mildly) on your computer, then register on sevenforums, become a Poweruser and then start a negative campaign on it?

I am not judging you. I just want to understand your demeanor.

I haven't yet seen any valid argument from you in this thread.
Saying CDOS could do what Win7 does except for the GUI, isn't adding to your credibility.

well Windows 7 for me 2 ( Dont need to clarify it ) :)

But I would like ask that " How Many Companies would Shift to Windows 7 in this stage ? " Vista had disappointed the corporate world too.(Dont quote me on this, use google).

The thinking of people (other than IT crowd ) regarding OS have changed cause of Vista. Most of them still prefer XP .But I really feel atleast in a year or 2 , i would love to see Windows 7 in corporate world too.

At personal level , Windows 7 is Best for me .

Companies will have to change to Windows 7 in the end. If there are good reviews on it, then the corporate world will inevitably switch. It'll just take time, but reception should be much better than Vista.

I used XP up until Win 7 RC 7100, tentatively messed with but generally bypassed Vista due to issues with speed. Have not looked back since installing a stable version of 7 and have no intention of reverting back to XP.

My first build!
Seven, easily. First off, the GUI doesn't look like it was made by a childrens toy company. Second, the new taskbar alone makes it far better than XP in terms of productivity and ease of use. Lastly, it runs, and runs pretty well, on a friends 512mb laptop that I installed it on, so it's versatile.

Actually, Microsoft's business model is on it's way to recording the biggest revenue ever made by a company, in history...:D
