i am having problems with my system not wanting to boot up occasionally, when I finally achieved boot up I did a sfc scannow and got the following results: Windows Resource Protection had found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them and the reference given was "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log".

I opened the cbs.log and went to the part that says cannot repair which is attached.
I have no idea what these means, I know that there is a way to extract files from the installation disc but I wouldn't know which ones.
Also I don't know if this is the problem that is making my pc not to boot up normally.

Anyone know what could I do in this case??

Thanks in advance you all..

Try scheduling a run of the checkdisk utility with the "chkdsk /r /p" command. You may want to download and run the drive manufacturer's own hard drive diahnostics tool as well to see if you have any bad sectors now being seen.

You can also burn a repair tool cd with the automatic startup repair tool to see that will help correct any minor startup problems if not seen in the F8 boot options menu.

This started when my pc did not sarted properly, giving me 1 long and 2 short beep codes and not being able to enter Bios or anything, (no signal to the black screen), after reseating video card and memory it will boot up normally.
Then the problem happpens again when I restart my computer, the same beep codes and showing "32" on the back of my MOBO (debug led).

I leave the computer alone for like an hour and i am able to boot up again normally, but when i restart the computer the problem reappears. Reseating video and memory no longer works, the only thing that works is letting the computer alone for 1 hour or more so i could turn it on properly.

On one of those normal bootings i took the oportunity to do a sfc scannow in command prompt so i could see if there is any corrupted system files that is causing my system to behave such way.

after doing this i wrote what i wrote at the beginning on this thread.

I am just wondering if this scannow results have anything to do with what is going on, If it does i would like to know how the hell I could read that cbs.log so I could know which files to replace with the installation disk.

If that's having anything to do with the start up problem then i am totally lost here.

that's it thanks....

If you have an Award - Phoenix bios on your board that one long two short beep code is indicating a hardware code not a software problem. 1 long 2 short is typically seen for video card failures as one of the main hardwares pointed to.

When you mention everything seems to be normal again after shutting down and letting the system sit for a period of time likely suggests the video card is overheating. You might want to check to see if the fan on the card itself is bound up with dust and not spinning or the fan simply gave out.

One suggestion here would be to go for the PC Wizard 2010 since that has been almost in 100% agreement with the hardware monitor on the board here for monitoring both video card temps as well as cpu temps. CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

But whenever you hear more then a single beep at powering up that indicates a hardware problem in most cases. Another good one for video card temps alone is the TechPoweUp GPU-Z another freeware found at techPowerUp! :: Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.4.2

This would be the first step to solving this one by montoring the present temps as well as you can while hearing the beep after a good reseat does suggest the card may be going bad on you there.

Hey , i have changed ram sticks order in memory slots and I successfully logged in.
Before that i tried booting up with just one stick changed to another slot but nothing, then I placed another stick and nothing, then I summed the other two sticks and Voila, here I am writing from my problematic computer.
I will not turn it off until i am done with your suggestions.
I will also try to flash the BIOS since I've never done that and my motherboard's website have a BIOS update published.

So the question that is left is: Is this a memory issue or graphic card issue?
Also, and think you should know that before, when this happened for the first time, I reseated the CMOS battery but I've never configured my BIOS after that. Everything is at the default values.
Would this be that I have to change something in the BIOS?

I have my computer case open right now and when I touch the video card i feel that is kind of hot, how could I know how hot is too hot?

Thanks a lot you all, hanging in there!

PC Wizard will have all that plus a little more included in that program.

PC Wizard will have all that plus a little more included in that program.

sometime that's cause a memory sticks but i'm not sure too, it's can many possible on it, can be graphics card and also temperature of CPU.

I never rush at flashing the bios unless there's a problem that needs to be fixed or a newer version will enable support for something. The screen here will show how PC Wizard displays both cpu and video card temps all in one window making it a good one to have.

The beep code heard is stricly hardware not software in every case. The single long beep followed by two short beeps in many bioses points at the video card itself. But that is also depends on what bios the board there has there as well while a temp problem likely from what you are describing.

One example where that particular points to something is seen with the AST Research bios: one long, two shortDMA page register test failed (POST 18)

That is the list of various bios codes seen at BIOS Beep Codes

Bios Central and other sites also have charts to lookover once you know which one you have.

That may be slightly warm but still within the normal temp range. It also depends on what you were doing when the screen went black on you like running a game or something else that would place a good load on the card which then heated up further.

The cpu temp was great and not any worry there on that. Now you have to find out which bios is used on that make and model board however in order to look up the actual definition for the 1 long 2 short while I suspect the card itself may be the card on the way without actually seeing temps high enough to overheat since most of this is being seen at startup.
