Solved sfc /scannow error

Hi,I recently ran a sfc /scannow and when it finished it showed "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" and to check cbs logfile.
I originally ran this scan because i was getting a problem when opening
photoshop cc,which was giving me an alert saying something like "ON
dll is missing,i then had to click off this alert about 6 times then photoshop
would open.
But since i ran the sfc /scannow it appears to have fixed it,but i don't know
why it's showing "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".
Also my laptop appears to be running fine and is very responsive.MBAM Pro and Avast IS
report no threats found.

Hello Tommy,

This is a common message when SFC is unable to repair any files the first round. You could go through the items listed in the blue Note box at the bottom of step 4 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below may be able to help allow SFC to repair them afterwards.

Hi Brink,

I just ran the scannow 6 tmes and it still shows "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".
Should i pursue this matter any further being as the laptop is running fine?
I don't even know what the corrupt files are.

Yep, you could move on to the next item listed in the blue Note box, then test SFC again, and so on....

Just a though.
When sfc /scannow finds problems and can't fix them a reboot and then running sfc /scannow now again might help.
Have you been rebooting between scans?
My thinking is some things get fixed in Windows 7 when rebooting that can't be fix if you don't reboot.

Yeah,I did a sfc /scannow 6 times and rebooted between each scan.

I just tried the the blue note box option (KB947821 (hotfix) but still the same.
So i'm gonna try system restore now.
I can't find my Windows 7 disc not sure if i had one when i bought the laptop.

Just tried system restore,i could only go back as far as Dec 6th don't know
why there was'nt any previous dates to choose from.
Any way did a system restore to Dec 6th but still no joy sfc /scannow still

In that case, go ahead and create a sfcdetails.txt file from OPTION THREE in the tutorial and upload it here. I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what's left that can't be repaired and if it's anything to worry about or not.

Step 1 in this tutorial has the link where you can download the Win 7 ISO for your licensed version.

It's good to have an install disc or usb flash stick on hand in case it's ever needed.

Unable to use option 3,when i copy & paste the command it shows"the system cannot find the path specified"

Yep, the command is correct. Be sure that you are doing it from within Windows in an elevated command prompt.

I am accessing cmd exe via start/Accessories/cmd prompt/then i right click and run as administrator.
I also tried creating a cmd exe shortcut from system32 but it still doesn't work.
But the sfc /scannow still runs.

Go ahead and post a screenshot showing this error in the command prompt to see if it may help ID what the issue may be.

Did come across this thread,check out "cottonbal's" 2nd post. How do you fix corrupted files found by SFC /SCANNOW? - Windows 7 Help Forums
But the guy he's replying to is running Windows 7 professional 64bit and i'm running Windows7 home
premium 64bit sp1,would i have a problem if i followed "cottonbal's" instructions?

No. You shouldn't have any issues using that as well.

Did you move your user profile folder by chance?

Double check to verify if the "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS" folder and your "C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop" folder exists.

"C:\Windows\Logs\CBS" is correct but there's no desktop folder in "C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop"
Also i've no recollection of moving my user profile folder.

Ok. The "C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop" user folder not being there is what is causing the error in the command prompt.

You can do OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to restore the default location of your "C:\Users\(user-name)\Desktop" folder. Afterwards, you should be to run the command.
