SFC/Scannow will not open

Suddenly SFC/scannow will not open. What caused this and how do I fix it?

Where/how are you trying to run it?

Open a Elevated Command Prompt and try running it there?
Do you get any error messages?

I type sfc/scannow in search and when the icon comes up I "run as administrator". For a second I see the black screen that indicates scannow but it disappears quickly.

Go to Windows start and in the search type cmd
You will see cmd.exe appear up top, right click on cmd.exe and left click "run as administrator"
In the window that opens type sfc /scannow then enter.
Note that there is a space between c /.

Did your cmd window open ?

Okay, that worked...thank you. Appreciate it.

I thought I could just click on the sfc/scannow, but apparently I have to go the cmd route.

I think when you entered sfc/scannow, that brought sfc.exe up to the top. When you run that as Administrator, no parameter gets passed so all you are running is sfc, so the window opens and closes quickly.
