Sharing internet to xbox 360

Why would another router be needed after the X-box? Going from the PC wired NIC into the X-box with ICS enabled should get it done unless I'm missing something here.

ICS use to work well for me back in the XP days but the lame part is that you need to have the host machine turned on for ICS to work. Never had a problem getting the connection up though.

The issue is that liamdawe isn't able (or allowed) to share the wireless connection. In Properties there's just a Network tab, no Sharing tab. I'm interested to hear whether bridging the wireless and ethernet connections will work. Seems like people have had success with that method.

I wasn't referring to adding a router. He already has one, and if he uses ICS on the PC to connect the xbox, that in essence *is* another router. It may well work just fine. But you end up with a double NAT'd connection.

I use the same basic setup (Modem -> Router (wifi) -> Laptop -> Shared to X360)

I never run into any internet related issues with that setup, signing in is a tad slower but thats about it.

Also sometimes, it wont connect, you'll need to take your ethernet cable out of your laptop for about 10 seconds, plug it back in, wait 10 more seconds, then try connecting to Live.

DarkNovaGamer, do you share the wireless using ICS or a bridged connection?

The ICS option from my wireless machine works for me and apparently DarkNovaGamer also. I even tested it from my laptop and the ICS sharing option is right there for me and is fully functional. I don't see any reason why it won't work for the Op.

Of course the more obvious and much easier solution is to just purchase the wireless dongle for the X-box. I guess that would be too easy though LOL. :D

That's good to hear. It would be interesting to see which is more reliable and faster, ICS or bridged connection.

My guess would be ICS, but I've never used Bridged for my Xbox 360 so I'll let others give their opinions. ;)

Interesting. I would guess bridged since it's a passthrough. Either way you probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

I'd like to see an experiment between the ICS and a bridged connection to the Xbox to see if there is any difference at all. My son moved out with the Xbox so I don't have one here to experiment with.

My latest experiment was to install Win 7 on my old Compaq machine. I'm typing this from my old Compaq socket 423 P4 1.7 GHz with 756GB memory. Win 7 Ultimate runs like a dream on this thing. I found an old Nvidia 4600 GS with HD on E=bay so now I can even run aero on this archaic machine. :D

Needless to say the Homegroup works perfectly for me just like with all my other machines. I can't figure out why everyone has so many problems with Homegroup.

Well i don't have the money to be able to just chuck £50 towards a wireless card for the xbox 360 if i did then i would have just done that.

Sorry to hear that :/ at least you were able to get your ethernet adapter recognized!

As a last resort, if you have the time and patience, you can always try a system restore. And if SP1 does what it's supposed to do, you might have more success a few months down the road.

IM having the same exact problem, Ive tried everything. My Xbox just cant gather the IP adress for some reason.

My Computer

OS
Windows 7
Problem Solved Ill tell you how I did it. The earlier posts ive read seem different and If this is a post that applies to another im sorry :D

Control Panel > View Network Status and tasks > Change adapter settings.

I then right-clicked on my Wireless network/Connection and went to properties.
Then I went to the sharing tab and Checked the first box and a drop down menu appeared and allowed me to share my connection with my LAN connection. Did that Restarted my xbox and ran tests and it worked fine.

Also before you do this you should Restore your xbox's network settings back to factory.
To do this go to:
System settings > Networs Settings > Configure network > Additional settings
And it should be the last selection.

Hope I helped :D

Hi KcGut,

Thanks for your input! The issue liamdawe had was not having a sharing tab at all, making your solution impossible to achieve  But I'm glad you were able to get it working for your system... enjoy!
