Sharing the whole system.

I am running windows 7 on my both systems. They are connected to an internet modem through cables. I want to access my older system to get all the required data. I tried to access via this command "\\ip address" but it says like "You don't have permissions...". I also tried to connect with the help of "Windows Easy Transfer" but that too didn't help.

Now please tell me how can I give my system permission to access the other system. My preference is to access via IP address.

Note: Ping command shows the other system is connected.

Are you using a homegroup or a workgroup? Are both comptuers on the same subnet - ie, 192.168.0.xxx? What antivirus or security software are you running?

I am using ESET Smart Security. I've disabled its firewall and after this I am able to access the target system with the help of "Windows Easy Transfer" but in case of access via IP address, it displays the error of having no permission.

In addition, do you have any shared files on either computer?

If you have to disable ESET to do any sharing, then it's probably one (there may be more) reason why you have issues. To test, completely uninstall ESET from both machines and test file sharing. You can install it again later, after we have identified and corrected the problem. If you feel you need a/v software during testing, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.
