Shorcut removal tutorial not working, anything i can do

as stated teh shortcut removal tutorial here's not working for me. I remember awhile back i stumbled upon a site that had 2 .reg files for editing the shortcut files i can't remember the site right now but those always worked for me. Now i have lost them due to a horrible mishap, aka forgot to bak up the files and the tutorial here's not working for me i get this ugly no icon image over all of my icons when i use that registry hack made by Mr. Grim the editing the registry thing :/ i can't get that to work either. I'm on 7 build 7077. If anyone can help me get rid of those horrible evil little arrows and shortcut text that'd be great. It makes me wodner why windows just doesn't do what i've seen done in ubuntu allow ppl to make launchers w/ no arrow or what have you oh well. Some year maybe :/

Ive tried and tried and retried to get rid of the arrows on and of all day.I have been logging on and off, restarting.If the arrows do disappear I end up with the little square page (like when you have a file and Windows doesnt know what to use to open it) instead.

I have read so many threads on the subject my head is spiining.Finally I read that it may not be enough to just log off or even restart, but it may take shutting down the PC altogether.Im sure it cannot be coincidence that the first time I did, it worked.

This is on Win 7 Build 7100 (x64)

Hello Saldawop, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That is strange that it will work for you if your shutdown the computer, but not if you just restarted it. I just do not see how it made a difference.

TBH I thought the same and I cant see any reason why it would work, but I have literally tried 20+ times . Either it didnt work at all (using FXVisor I got an error message and it didnt work),using the registry files,downloaded from mulitple sites,multiple times changed the arrow to a different overlay(what is that icon called??). The last time I tried it, the overlay changed but it wasnt until I turned off the PC and then restarted that the overlay disappeared completely.

PS Had to reinstall today. Due to my incompetance I lost everything on my PC .I was using an older version of the Vista Overlay Remover...at least 3-4 months old .That worked fine yesterday on the same PC.Downloaded the new version today and only had problems with it)

Oh it makes sense, just strange that it wouldn't work with a restart to. I suppose that as long as it worked though, all is fine.

I've heard that you can use TweakUI in compatiblity mode (XP), and it will remove the icons if you set it to do so. Give it a try.
