I'd sure be grateful if someone reading this could explain to me (or remind me?) how to create a shortcut on my Windows 7 desktop, that would open up a separate window displaying the contents of the desktop on another computer running Windows XP or Windows 2000.

I have to admit that in my old age my memory and cognitive skills are on the wane and I do have trouble learning new things these days (and just as much trouble remembering the old things I used to know).

I'm an old guy, disabled by worsening chronic illnesses, and scraping by on Social Security, so I have to rely on hand-me-down hardware and software.

I've been playing around with computers since the 80s, back when when I used the CP/M and MS DOS operating systems.

I now have a bunch of old PCs and laptops running Windows XP & Windows 2000 hooked up to a home network.

Last summer I received and old PC running Windows 7 and have to confess that even after months of trying to figure it out, that Windows 7 GUI still has me utterly baffled.

On all my other computers I have a shortcut on each of their desktops that I can click on to "see" the contents of the desktops on any of the other computers in my network.

But when I've tried to create such shortcuts on the Win7 computer, instead of opening a separate Window on the Win 7 desktop which shows me the contents of the desktop of one of my XP or 2K computers, it just jumps me back to the Windows Explorer.
