Solved Should I Do a Clean Install?

This is for Greg, or anyone else who has experience in this section. Should I do a Clean Install?

First of all, when I tried to restore my operating system via Acer eRecovery Management, it said Hard drive is not set to the factory default. Restore aborted. I also have a nagging balloon that keeps saying Windows 10 Technical Preview is ready. Help me out here, Greg. Really frustrated!

You are running Windows 7, correct? The OS that came preinstalled on the laptop? You have not done a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 before that would make the Recovery partition not work?

If you've not done a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 yet then read over the steps, ask back any questions, plan out your work in advance, and you'll end up with the best install of Win7 one can have, which will stay that way as long as you stick with only the tools and methods in the tutorial.

Otherwise you can try making your eRecovery media or order it from Acer to run Factory Recovery from bootable media. But the Factory Install restored by eRecovery is an grossly inferior install compared to the Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Yes, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. But, if you can fix the balloon alert to install 10 TP and to somehow fix the acer erecovery management program, then that would be appreciated.

Did you Check for Updates and then rightclick the update to hide it as I already suggested? Do that now.

Why do you want to run Recovery? What is the problem with Windows 7 exactly?

Did you read over the tutorial to decide if it's what you want?

First of all, I played around and was wanting to install Windows 10 Technical Preview but then I backed out and said no because it has bugs in it. Then, I accidentally converted my drives to dynamic, but someone on here helped me convert it back to basic. So, now I have this balloon that keeps popping up wanting me to install 10 TP. Also, Acer eRecovery Management says the hard drive is not located properly or something.

Greg, I think it might be best to do a clean install.

One bad thing about a clean install is these popups for win-10 will repeat unless you catch and hide the updates before they install,
So uninstalling the updates causing the issue is the easiest way to fix the issue.

But if you poked the pooch on the original install and the recovery partition is now corrupt possibly it's is time to get rid of all original partitions and do a clean ?

That means a lot of mother board bios and other machine updating utilities will be gone too,
A lot of crapware too but the mobo bios updater built in is important in case you need it later

How old is the machine anyway ?

I also agree the tutorial of Grego's explains in detail what to do :/

I got it in 2012 or 2011. I think it's fine now. I did a system restore.

That tutorial shows how to take a screenshot. Please also use the same method to take a screenshot of the Win 10 popup message.

You deleted what appears to be your Recovery partition. You can absorb that into C using How to extend partition easily with Partition Wizard - video help. I would use the Partition Wizard CD.

We might need to get TeamViewer out, Greg as I might mess it up.

Teamviewer could only do it from the installed version, Jesse, and I would not resize C with any but the PW boot disk to be safest.

Still waiting to see this Windows 10 popup.

What other performance problems do you have with the install. Is it always instantaneous and never hangs as Win7 should be if it has a good install. If it's the same install that came with the PC did you Clean Up Factory Bloatware
