Solved Should I Do a Clean Install?

I fixed the Windows 10 popup by resetting the notifications center, so it's been fixed. Also, it seems to not be hanging up right now. It does at startup a little, but it eventually straightens up. Also, yes it's the same install that came with PC. Only thing I did was restore or reset the OS once using Acer eRecovery Management because of a malfunction.

Also, yes I cleaned up factory bloatware. I got rid of what I didn't want to use.

But did you follow all the other steps in that tutorial which assure that the damage done by bloatware is corrected as best it can be, you're running a Clean Boot with a free lightweight AV instead of a bloated one that comes with the PC, and other optimizations that bring the install as close as possible to the Win7 standard which is always instantaneous and never hangs?

I'm not sure about the bloat ware, and no I didn't read all of the steps in the tutorial. Also, I am running Norton Internet Security Online. My ISP provides it.

I do not recommend Norton as it is bloatware which often causes problems we see here remedied by uninstalling it and replacing with a recommended AV.

You should read the steps carefully in both Clean Up Factory Bloatware and Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to decide which you want to do.

You said you cleaned up the bloatware but then said you hadn't read the steps. So I would start there. If you have any trouble understanding the steps just ask back. It may seem too technical so you only need to ask.

I'm really busy here today but may have some time before I travel to connect and look over your install. However you should still read, question and then understand fully what's involved in those procedures since you are interested in them.

Okay. Thanks, Greg.

If you don't have a backup image of your whole disk, then you'd need to have the Recovery disks which you should make when you first get the PC.

If you don't have those then you can order Recovery disks which recover the entire hard drive including Recovery Partition back to factory condition. How to convert Windows 7 on MBR/BIOS to GPT/UEFI | MPS Partners

But this factory install is an inferior install to the Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Okay. I plan on ordering new recovery disks next month. They are $19.99.

Greg, I've been wondering. Should I do a clean install before Windows 10 comes out? I'm saying this because my hard drive can only hold so much. So, a clean install might be needed before 10 gets here. I have most of my important files backed up to OneDrive "the cloud". I have written down all of the applications I need.

I'm not sure. Let me give it some thought. I would like to, but this is so confusing to me. I would especially need some guidance and help.

Are you able to read and understand the steps? You can ask back as many questions as you have for each step and I'll answer them.

But you've said several times now that performance is OK so why are you wanting to Clean Reinstall? If you are worried that your hard drive will fill up then go through and clean up your files, move some off to storage. What other problems are there??

I guess I pretty much understand everything. I'm not worried about backing things up, as there's nothing that important on my system. As performance goes, it seems to be okay. But, I have don't have any thing to put the files on for storage except for OneDrive. I hope I'm making some sense.
