Should I install SSD SATA3 on SATA2 motherboard?

I have been given a voucher ($200) for my local computer store as a birthday present and I want to know if it is worthwhile installing a SATA3 SSD on my Gigabyte PA 55 UD4 motherboard that only supports SATA2?

I won't be upgrading my motherboard for approximately 3 years when I purchase a new computer, so that is not an option. I guess it would future proof the hard drive but is it likely to last three years and more?

Would I notice a big difference between an SSD SATA3 and my Western digital 1 TB Green SATA2 connected to my existing motherboard?

No problem using a 6 Gb/s SSD with a SATA II MB. I did it on my HP Laptop and the increase in performance was truly amazing. Make sure to set up ACHI mode in your system bios before installing it.

Thanks for the replies, not sure about the add-on card as there is some debate about the speeds they can achieve and also whether trim will work. SSD here I come.
