Should I purchase xp?

Why on earth are you planning to use xp "for years" when it has become an outdated unneeded piece of software in this day and age? Win 7 should be able to do most and close to everything xp used to do, and better. Most software meant specifically for xp (no revisions for newer OSes) is likely just as outdated as xp itself. less safe, less useful, requiring more work, and more complications (no longer supported).

I have an application that cannot be run in anything BUT xp. It just will not work anyplace else so I need to run it using my Windows 7 laptop (I no longer have an xp system). It is a custom application that I use for our church and it would be far far more work to rewrite/redo everything so running it in xp mode on my current system works just great. I just wanted to be assured I could run it on my wife's system (Win7 Home) and to have a copy of win xp just in case something ever changes with xp mode.

You can just use http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html or VirtualBox for this old application, there is no real need for XP

Hi there

PLEASE ENGAGE BRAIN BEFORE MAKING TOTALLY ASSINE POSTS LIKE THIS.
Some old programs will NOT run in compatability mode -- also drivers often won't work either in legacy mode.

I don't want to flame individuals BUT AT LEAST CHECK OUT STUFF BEFORE YOU POST. AND TEST IT AS WELL IF YOU CAN.

Cheers

If you are refering to my post, I specifically said MOST, not all. And I still believe what I said to be true. I know money can many times be an issue, but I recommend upgrading to newer software, newer hardware as well if needed. And If bww is absolutely positive through testing extensively that his program cannot work on anything other than xp mode, than that is fine, time to move on to the next set of ideas to try and help him out. You saying you don't want to flame anyone doesn't take away from the fact that you are indeed flaming, by quoting us and calling us braindead.

You can get a new computer that isn't too shabby for under 500US$, and Quicken 2011 for under 100US$ http://quicken.intuit.com/. Bww, I understand that you don't want to loose contacts, you might look into what they say about exporting data to a newer version of the program, or if it allows you to upgrade (If thats the path you want to take). For your other software only made for xp, there may be another software program for cheap that you can find on the market to replace it, you might just have to search for it. Otherwise you may just have to work with the Microsoft Virtual aspect by upgrading to pro, or install the xp software that you currently own, replacing or dualbooting windows 7 home. washere had another idea you could try:
XP mode is a pro+ item. However if you have a legitimate copy of XP you can use vmware(free version) virtualbox, or another virualization software.
