Should I reformat this HD?

So, just curious how long does it take to delete 43GB of info from the system?

up to an hour i would say. lots of factors...RAM, HD RPM, memory, fragmentation, etc.

(if you havent done this already) right-click the C: drive in "my computer". click "properties". then click the "disk cleanup" button next to the pie graph. on the resulting menu click the "clean up system files" button. click the "more options" tab. click the "cleanup" button in "system restore and shadow copies". say yes to the pop-up BUT DONT CLICK OK. click the "disk cleanup" tab again, and make sure you check all the boxes next to the items you want to delete. TAKE NOTE: if you have the win7 SP installed, dont check the box next to the uninstall information.once you have checked or unchecked the options you want, you can click "OK".

do that, and i will post more in the mean time.

this tiny little program freed up nearly 4GB the first time i ran it: PureRa - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

run this program on its default settings (until you are familiar with it). run the registry cleaner module REPEATEDLY until it finds no erroneous entries.

click START and type msconfig in the search box. select "msconfig from the search results. when it opens click the "startup" tab. then click the manufacturer column to sort. leave all the microsoft entries alone. nearly all other entries can be unchecked. then click "apply" and restart. if you find something isnt working right when you reboot, just go back to msconfig and re-enable it.

let me know how it goes.

and of course after freeing up so much disk space, you will want to defrag. do that last. it will probably take awhile.

Ok I used the program PureRa and cleared out some junk. I don't need to do msconfig since there is only a Lil bit in there that is necessary during start-up. I am defragmenting now.

Really about 1GB in total... as seen below comparison:

must be win7 and whatever programs you have installed (plus music and pictures) since your net gain is only about the size of your "windows.old" folder.
maybe more space will show after a restart. or you may have a hidden partition.

I checked how much space my installed programs take and its total is 934MB + 9GB of music and pictures(combined) + I think Windows 7 files = About 20GB. So I'll try a reboot after the defrag is finished and tell you what happened.

well, if you only have 1GB of RAM, you may have a larger than normal pagefile. you could adjust the size, but it may cause some lag if you make it too small.

did you restart? does it seem any faster?

I does seem a little bit faster after reboot, but I saw that there are folders on my HD that are just plain weird. Should I show you? Its just folders no files in sight.
