Snap - Just fitted my X-25M (2nd Generation) drive today and am using it as the Win 7 systems disk. Absolutely amazing performance :D

I have moved my page file to my 7200rpm WD hard drive and it seems to have improved my WEI Memory score hugely as well.

I just ordered an X-25M (2nd gen) today. When it comes in, I plan to use it the exact same way you are..including moving that page file over to my WD Caviar Black.

Don't set a password in the BIOS. I just read this the other day.

Well I finally DLed HD tune and installed it. and here is my score for the X-25M.

The dips in performance are interesting. they seem to change somewhat each run. SOme part of the throughput is dependant on what windows decides it wants to do in the background as you are running the test :/

By comparison here is my seagate 1 TB baracuda as well...
My Benches seem to be almost exact as yours...Very goodconsidering i got mine for $111. You have more space tho, but i have all my programs installed and im currently only using 9GB out of 30GB
They look pretty good. I have never ran a "random access" test.

The bandwidth speeds look right. Do you like it compared to normal disks?
Lovin it.

I wonder why my CPU usage is not registering. It should be right up with yours but it's -1. That cannot be right.

Keep in mind, the problem with the drives was discovered in the 1st week of August and the stories hit around August 6th, 2009. Intel began shipping the drives with the fix again during the 2nd week of August. And they have a fix on their website for anybody with who already had their hands on the drive.

So, these drives are being shipped actively now and the problems have been corrected.

The BIOS password thing was identified and fixed very quickly.

I received my Intel 2nd Gen X-25M on 22nd August and it had the new firmware on it. Intel had the new firmware on their website before that as well.

Very Very few drives can have made it into circulation before the problem was identified and the shipments recalled.

So, don't be afraid - go and buy one now! :D

Good to hear. i would trust Intel for most purchases. I would have purchased one if the price / performance was there. They make the best drives. I hope it gives you years of enjoyment.

Pparks1, I was just looking at this thread and noticed back in July you really didn't think too highly of SSDs (or were suspicious of them)

How do you like them now? I would have a hard time going back to a "normal" drive now

Just the boot time alone when I'm overclocking is worth the price. I have saved sooooo much time it's not even funny.

Pparks1, I was just looking at this thread and noticed back in July you really didn't think too highly of SSDs (or were suspicious of them)

That's the whole reason that I got the SSD drive. I didn't want to speculate and guess as to what the overall performance would have been. Fortunately, I felt that $250 for an 80GB drive wasn't too overpriced and I went out and got one. So, now I can speak with personal experience to back it up.

How do you like them now? I would have a hard time going back to a "normal" drive now
I like some of them, namely the Intel (which I have), the Patriot Torqx, and the OCZ. These are the makes and models which seem to have eliminated most of the problems. I'd say for the most part, these are still just for the elite computer users and people interested in sheer performance. Don't get me wrong, I do love the drive and it is fast...but I don't think the average joe could justify the cost for the performance right now.

Just the boot time alone when I'm overclocking is worth the price. I have saved sooooo much time it's not even funny.
I don't notice that much difference from my Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive in boot times to be honest. Both are very fast. Sure, the SSD is faster....but not enough to solely make the purchase worth it. Where I REALLY notice the difference, is launching a game and getting into the game and back to the desktop when complete. That is so fast now compared to how it was before.

My Intel X25-M has similar performance. The numbers vary a bit from day to day. The pattern of the graph is usually the same--slight dips at the beginning and then a slight reduction for a while just over half way through.

I am running AHCI.

I don't know what causes the drop at the beginning and have wondered. PerfectDisk shows the beginning is where the data is and the slight drop in the middle is where the MFT is. Perhaps storing data on the SSD results in a very slight performance hit when measured with HD Tune. Could wear levelling be causing this effect?
