Im really curious which 80gb ssd is faster.

ocz,corsair or intel?

Faster in what, Sequential reads, Sequential writes, random writes, access time, 4k writes, etc.????

From a day to day perspective, you would likely find they are all about equivalent. Probably couldn't measure a difference with a stopwatch.

I know that faster is "general" question.

I believe the most users saying fast-faster they mean windows startup-shutdown,games and programs loading.

My Intel 320 120GB has an imaged W7 on it. You were one of the people that gave me assistance with install.
Since April or so with no problems except when I messed it up with a bad driver.
I just set a new image with Macrium disk.

Avg speed 90.95 MiB/s.
AD gone from 245 to 240.
P/E 11165.
MD5 OK.

I wouldn't worry about an Intel X25 or 320 series as long as it scores over a 7.0 or 7.2. On my desktop, my X25-M G2 80GB scores a 7.8. On my laptop, my 320 series 80GB scores a 7.6.

True. And it does feel a bit snappier overall.
Was just odd to actually see it score the same.

But, In the grand scheme of things, I was quite happy with my 40GB Intel, was just a getting a bit cramped for space.
So the 320 being twice the size and a bit faster shouldn't disappoint in the long term.

In AS-SSD my 320 got something like a 349. The 25V was getting 328ish.
So not a huge difference in speed.
Perhaps a fresh install later will help. not sure.


Benchmarks aside, I have a feeling that in everyday use it may be hard to tell the difference between the 320 and M4.
Can't say for sure though.

The m4 is faster in 4k and 8k if on a decent 6.0Gbs controller.

On AS SSD for example an m4 at 24MB/s instead of my Intel 320 at 18-19MB/s some times might be noticed- maybe. Normal use I doubt you would.

Of course if both are on a SATA 3.0Gbs controller you would be down to 18-21 on the m4.

In normal OS usage the most important thing is access times. Most all of them are right at 0.1ms for read times. I really don't believe that you could tell the difference if you found one that was 0.05. And Hoppy is right. Here is what a 64GB M4 looks like on my laptop 3Gb/s controller in As SSD

well, I give my 320 another week or two. Reallocations are rising at the rate of about 150 per day now and the SSD is slowing down a bit. I had a 2 day setback due to a failed part in my testing rig (ram).

487.5TB written. 4694 reallocated sectors. Reserved space is at 16. Erase fail count is at 86.

137 days since testing started.
They have beaten the crap out of the Intel 320 and it is still running.
Some NAND may have died just not sure. It is still writing.
Not as impressive as the m4 but has been at it a lot longer.

The m4 4k on 3.0 was on the low end of my prediction. Dead even with the 320.

Yea, the 320 scores are right dead on with what Im getting. Right at 19 on the 4K.

Mine is posted in here somewhere a few pages back. It was 18k on Intel P55 controller with iastor.

I really like it.
Intel Toolbox is nice. No worry did it TRIM or not if you run TRIM manually etc.

Essenbe steered me to a good product.

Yea, I do really like Intel drives myself

I would think the 320 would be quite similar to the X25s.

I know on my x25V 40GB, I didnt exactly keep it clean.

For example, I would test something, then fireup Acronis and do a system restore. I did this alot for a while. Maybe once a week.

And even doing so, it still held on to its performace. It might drop a point or 2 on occasions, but was back up to speed within a day.

I did Secure erase it once or twice .. but overall I didnt worry about it, nor did I need to.
So from that stand point, the Intels are quite durable & dependable.
So Im very comfortable using & trusting it.


If the M4 can do even close to that long term, it will certainly will be a huge success.
Its numbers alone are already very impressive.




Might still get the M4 though at build time
That or put the money into something else like larger spinners for storage.

Just noticed something playing around with my new Intel 320 Drive.

In the Smart DATA it shows this:


I just installed this drive ... why are the writes so high?

Just out of pure curiosity, I started up my Nero rescure recovery (similar to undelete) and scanned the drive and got this:


Notice the dates?

When I got the drive I updated the firmware.
Afterwards I booted from my Acronis rescue disc and imaged my OS over.
I left the drive as unallocated, so there was no partition of format done.

I was thinking perhaps some of this may be remants in the image of things deleted but ....
I installed a fresh copy of Win 7 (After a Secure Erase) when I got my new Graphics card. that was may of this year, so the dates seem wierd.



Am I jumping to conclusions or does it look like the drive is used?
It almost appears as if it was patitioned, and that was just deleted.

Also, power cycle is showing 46.
I cant possibly see that its been more than 10 TBH.

I'd say it is right.

On some SSD's they show a value for writes you make- Host Writes (installs and downloads) and Total writes- what is written by wear leveling etc. plus the Host Writes.

Intels from what I can figure just gives Total Writes but is called Host Writes. So you end up with the same total listed twice as Host Writes.
Depends on how the firmware is written by each company/manufacturer.

I have written enough on mine to activate wear leveling and both write totals are still the same amount.

20GB image decompresses a lot bigger.
Macrium and other backup software compress the saved image.

Installed on my SSD right now is 43GB.

I just made a new Macrium Image. I forgot to make one yesterday after the Windows Updates.

New Mac Image is 18.3GB compressed.

So if I set that image it will decompress back to the 43GB on my drive now.

So that accounts for at least 40GB of your 65GB.

There have been more than a few discussions of that on the Intel Forums and as far as I can recall nobody can explain the values given. The writes always exceed what is expected. If intrested, here is a download of info on Intel 320 drives in pdf format.

Update on the SSD Write Endurance 25nm Vs 34nm thread.

One SSD (manufacturer lifetime rating of 172.4TiB) is at 684TiB and still going strong.
