What drivers are you using?

I think these are to different types of tests Dave on the same SSD. I could be wrong, but they probably use different criteria to run the test. That's probably the difference.

I got the crap scared out of me yesterday. I tried to boot and saw the dreaded "no boot device found" or something like that. I promptly disconnected my SSD and connected it to a different SATA port and controller and it is working fine. I connected it back to the same one and it's working fine. I'm glad Patriot has a 10 year warranty......damn. It could be my SSD dying.....I don't know.

Was just referring to the AS SSD marks from his previous posts, Looks like the AS SSD scores have fallen off a bit. Since the Everest scores were pretty much in line with his previous AS SSD scores I was wondering if he had noticed any performance decline.

He had mentioned he was using the msahci drivers, so should have trim working.

Have been reading up on the SSDs for a while, been planning to get one and am very curious about performance degradation.

Did finally order one, should be here in about a week. Yes, living on a tropical island has it's drawbacks.

As for the dreaded "no boot device found" , hope it keeps on going for you.
This is not the kind of thing I want to see now that I have one coming.

It would be nice if some of the previous posters would update their scores, so we all can see if there has been any performance decline and what they are doing about it.

my SSD has got better overall score with the new Intel Driver since i bought it in Dec.
could just be the new AS SSD or that i don't do many benchmarks with it.

Having done a bit o' researching before my SSD arrived in early Feb I was fully aware
of the dire warnings regarding mis-alignment. I also knew that the Reflect images I had
were almost certainly mis-aligned but I was bound and determined to avoid reinstalling
the OS.

The first test with AS-SSD confirmed the mis-alignment, yet the results were on par with
test results from others:



I had no performance issues for the week or two that I ran the SSD with this
mis-aligned partitiion. Eventually I decided to go for the fix.

After several failed trial-&-error attempts to get the image file restored to a properly
aligned partition (Reflect+Robocopy, Acronis, etc) I stumbled on a post at the
Crucial forums (link below) which detailed a method of actualy correcting the existing mis-
alignment without data loss using Gparted. I had little faith that the (fairly simple) process would work, but in fact it did work.

What I found most interesting about this whole experience was that at the end of
the day there was little or no change in the test results. IF alignment is truly
critical for the performance of the SSD then why hadn't I seen even a modicum of
benefit? Ah, the mysteries!

So for the weeks since the re-alignment, I've treated the SSD with no special care. I
was on a mission to see what it would tolerate -- if it broke it broke. No biggie. It
was used just like a HDD. Although there is nothing on the SSD except the OS &
Programs (pagefile & temp files are elsewhere, 'fetching/indexing/hibernation are off)
I didn't hesitate writing to the drive. I've created and restored many, many Images
-- even ignored all the warnings and defragged the darn thing half a dozen times
just to get the SSD to react. Nothing.

After all that, the latest AS-SSD test results show a slight **improvement in performance**:



So, from my perspective, it seems that this SSD didn't care about alignment or a bit of
mis-use.

But if we heard that something works, and we read a post from somebody saying it works...sometimes we begin to adopt those theories as our own recommendations.

We often go to extreme lengths to ensure that something is configured exactly as we think it should be configured and quite often we don't really even properly test before and after to see if it really amounted to any perceivable difference. But if we heard that something works, and we read a post from somebody saying it works...sometimes we begin to adopt those theories as our own recommendations.

My SSD is still working fine. I don't know why it failed temporarily (or if it was the SSD) but the old Torqx is running great! I don't know if it will make it the full 10 year warranty. I will use this thing for the fulll 10 years in one way or another to see how long it lasts. I will use it as a data drive some day when I get a new one.

Also, thanks for mentioning me going gold. I have been slacking off lately here in the forums. I should be a "goldmember" now! Ah well.....it will be good to be a goldmember. I will hit it this weekend maybe.

All you need for a SSD is a spare SATA port on your board.
