Shutting down or Rebooting by holding down the power button

Will my PC be ok if I shut down or rebooted by holding down the power?

Hiya

Today I just did some really stupid experiments and now I'm worried if my computer is ok

1) A while I ago after my PC crashed and rebooted, and at the "log in" screen I pressed the power button for about 2 seconds and windows shut down, was what I did could damage or corrupt my PC/HDD?

2) I tried another test to see how the power button works, while my windows finish rebooting and at the log in screen I hold the power button, *windows says it is shutting down*, *PC completely finishes shutting down with the power LED light fully off*, then I finally let go of the power button, was what I did was safe or could have damage my computer/HDD?

3) I tried another experiment but this time a bit further, PC rebooted again and at the log in screen I press and hold onto the power button, *windows is shutting down* *computer completely finish shutting down* *computer restarts/turns on again*, then I finally let go of the power button and got the *got the windows did not shut down properly, do you want to start in safe mode msg*, was what I did was safe, etc?

4) And the last experiment that cause me to stop once and for all, PC rebooted and at the log in screen I press and hold onto the power button, *windows says it's shutting down* *PC fully turns off* *PC restarts with power light on* *PC turns off and restarts again!!!(the second restart happened when it still hasn't reach the log in screen yet, it resetted during around the part when the monitor had the black background with all the white text words or could be when the windows loading logo was up)* I was horrified after the computer restarted while it was still booting up, I quickly let go of my power button. Would this have damage my motherboard/BOIS/CMOS/Hard drive or files, etc?

Sorry for all the questions, I don't mean to ask so much, if someone can explain to me how the mechanics of holding down the power button works I'll greatly appreciated it, sorry for my awkward tone and many thanks in advance.

Currently I'm using windows 7, 64 bit.

If you use the power button to shut down the pc, nothing bad will happen.

But when it restarts, it will ask you to run a repair, or start windows normally, always choose to start windows normally.

You should always reboot or shutdown your pc the proper way.

Depends on what you interrupt. Some programs take it harder than others. But Win7 is pretty good about waiting until necessary tasks are completed before it will fully shut down.

I you want to check over your install and become more familar with your PC and Win7 work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Compare the install you have to a perfect install as provided in Clean Reinstall which steps are the same for retail. You might want to improve on it.

The thing that worries me is after my computer crashed from a gaming error, it restarted back on with the monitor display not showing. I wasn't sure how to turn it off so I tried by pressing on the power button for about 30 seconds, after it shuts down I still haven't let go of the button, a few seconds after powering off it turns back on and when it was running POST the computer reboots again, I was really worried when that happened and I quickly let go of the power button.

I just want ask when my computer rebooted when it was starting up(it rebooted before the windows loading logo appeared), could this have corrupted the BIOS or my computer hardwares? I know what I did was stupid but didn't expect it would have rebooted again when it was starting up if I kept on holding the power button.

No, it will not corrupt the bios.

Has it started up normally for you since then ? Are you on that pc now ?

At least I'm much more relief now, there was a BSoD during one of the boot up, but that was after another additional of 4 gaming crashes, after that BSoD, the next reboot worked fine.

I think you should concentrate on why you`re having crashes during gaming, no way that should be happening with your hardware.

Maybe a reinstall of windows is in order.

Yea, I'll be reformatting my hard drive tmr morning once I back up all my stuff. I'm just so glad my mobo, bios or any other hardware wasn't affected when my PC rebooted during the start up.

You should also think about an aftermarket cpu cooler.

Are you monitoring your cpu temps during gaming ?

Use Core Temp.
