HI all, :)

Well my low post count is going to get a bit bigger. :(

On my desktop this morning I received this error,

The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect.....

Spent lots of time googleing and have done disc checks, start-up repair sfc /checknow, (or something like that as that was this morning), and all came up ok.

Next coarse of action looks like un-install and re-install of the .net framework and the Visual C++. Now that seems like a good idea but same error is coming up when trying to run the installers as there .exe..

Only managed to get files of the net by laptop.
Looks like repair install might be next :(

Any advise on how to get the .exe files running would be great. As it seems Im going nowhere till then.

Thanks
Timon

Sorry, also cant uninstall anything through control panel ether... so sad.

Thanks

*Edit*

I had wondered if it could have been a bit of nasty software, as was opening up some links to some screen shots of TPB and had a few more pop ups than I was happy with... closed them all of cause and didn't end up with anything downloaded that I was aware of. Only bring this up as this error seems to be linked with software install problems too.

Thanks

Reinstalling the App. that fails to start should do the trick. Albeit it needs to be installing the correct version of Visual Basic that's compatible with the install of C+.

You can download the latest version here. MS VB runtime library

MS Fixit tool is quite good at sorting out SxS errors.

Hi, Thanks for replies. Duly noted on the self replies.

Well only program I did get to run was windows defender. And that was alerting me as it was out of date.
Since then no .exe will run. No short cut or icon linking to program works. Ether just does nothing or comes up with the same old error.

Reinstalling the App. that fails to start should do the trick. Albeit it needs to be installing the correct version of Visual Basic that's compatible with the install of C+.

Hi cyclic, at this point I am not able to install anything, as nothing seems to want to run.
(not to mention every app isnt starting :( so that would be a lot of re-install. Leads me to think the apps are actually ok?).

Please post this info even tho' you're not getting BSOD's: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Will look through that and see what I can get to run.

Thanks
Timon

Ok cant run BSOD Dump & System File Collection app as its .exe. even tried from elevated command prompt. Same old error.

Managed to run Systm Diagnostic report from dos prompt, as cant get in through control panel Performance info. tools advanced tools... (I really am locked out of most things). But cant zip it as zip wont run. Have saved as HTML to desktop. Can I up load as some thing else?

Cant run any ms apps from the net as pc cant open a browser. Down loaded apps from net wont run as .exe.

Have all the MS VB runtime library C++ stuff sitting on the desktop but cant run any of it.

Thanks for your time :) I appreciate your help

This is a screen shot of Diagnostic report. Please let me know if there is a specific area you would like to see. *EDIT saved on to laptop and zipped, and uploaded*

And system specs.

Try the free Rescue disks on this page: Free Online AntiMalware Resources

Ran Kaspersky as boot. No issues found.

Ran memory check at boot and came up good.

But couldnt get it to boot off disc for HD check.

Looked into windows recovery install, and says I need 8gb free in drive to do it. sadly have about 1.5gb in c: and cant see any way of uninstalling programs to free up any.

Hope im not heading of a format of c: :(

Try several of the hard drive tests that I suggest here: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
In particular, Seatools, Hitachi DFT, Western Digital Data Lifeguard (for Windows), and HDTune

As for the free space, move 8gB of data from the hard drive to an external drive (using a bootable OS such as the Ultimate Boot CD). Then do the repair, then move the 8gB of data back to the drive.

As for a format of C: - it's a last resort, and we're not there yet.
