I have Skydrive for Windows installed. Copied a folder to the Skydrive location, shows up as a Skydrive sub-folder. All the files in the folder were immediately uploaded to Skydrive, but new files are not being uploaded. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...

So do you have anything helpful to add?
I know for a fact the folders don't autosync.

If the folders don't autosync, would need to manually upload each new file? Feels like I must be missing something here.

The MS description of Skydrive is a bit confusing in this respect - "Everything you put in this folder is automatically kept in sync between your computers and SkyDrive. Whenever you add, change, or delete files in one location, all the other locations will be updated."

Okay well I have to confess to using mesh because it never seemed broken.
Seems the proper way to do it now is to grab the skydrive app.
https://apps.live.com/skydrive

It will add a skydrive sync option to your right click context menu.
Then you just pick folders.

...and now I'm off to change all my stuff around as to not be outdated and shunned by my fellow geeks.

Mesh is fine, just that live Mesh is hard to find now (Microsoft removed the download links, and it was bundled with the older Windows Live Essentials)

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you have the Skydrive application installed? The one with the cloud icon in the system tray? If so, they should be uploaded in near real-time. I can work on a document, for example, and when I hit Save, I can see the green progress lines under the cloud icons in the system tray, meaning it's uploading automatically. If I have two systems on at once, any changes made on one appear almost immediately on the other.

I should note there's two different Skydrive apps: Skydrive Metro and Skydrive desktop. Skydrive metro is preinstalled, but it does not do syncing. It only allows you to access your Skydrive files.

The desktop app (same as in Windows 7) is the one you need for active sync.

If I move the folder to Skydrive, will the files still be on my computer, or only in the cloud? I copied the Photos folder to Skydrive, but when I add new photos to the original folder, they're not uploaded. There's no right-click sync option, guess I'll have to try SkyShellEx...

Assuming you are using the actual program, and not the "app" that's built-in to Windows 8, then they will sync automatically, and will be present on your local computer as well.

Use the Sync program linked by Gary which works fine in most cases. Make sure you have the latest Skydrive version and watch for update to Skyshell Sync coming soon.

This creates a Symlink in the Skydrive folder which is a virtual folder interfacing between the User folder (which is what I link to Skydrive) and Skydrive servers. Any changes are nearly instantaneous as soon as the PC is online.

I installed SkyShellEx, then right-clicked the Photos folder and chose Sync To Skydrive. But nothing happens, even when I shut down and restart Skydrive. Must be missing something...

Does it list Photos in Skydrive folder with blue activity icon showing?

Wait a bit to see if it starts syncing Photos to Skydrive and to other machines you've similarly sync'd.

It's possible Skyshell (developed by a MS programmer but not supported by Skydrive) has stopped working. In that case you can move the folders you want Sync'd to the Skydrive folder using this method: Sync Any Folder to Your SkyDrive Account | PCWorld
