slow boot time. have followed seavixens tute on event viewer...

hi guys,

some of you had assisted me a week or so ago re clean install etc. there was an issue of slow boot times. that seemed to fix itself but unfortunately it is back. i have read seavixen's tutorial on event viewer and setup my custom view accordingly. but how do i understand which programs to not run at boot? i was advised by greg i think to not run any. is this so? below are some screen shots of slow boot and my startup. for some reason i think i should be running those ticked at the startup. are these boot time images helpful? so tired of this pc... is it just no good???

oh, there is a file there, cisco VPN client, that my university setup. we don't use that anymore and i have deleted the application but it appears here in the custom event viewer and when i set up the boot times and degradation view it saved in that file. is it a problem?

Try removing Ad Aware. Then, disable everything in msconfig except for Microsoft Security Essentials.

REBOOT!

You have just told Win 7 to not run unchecked programs at start up time.

You have not disabled the programs. They will be run when needed.

WIN = key with the Microsoft logo on top

Use DISABLE button to disable ALL

Close CCleaner.

REBOOT!

You have not disabled any programs. You have disabled the scheduled running.
Later, after your system is running smoothly, you may reenable desired programs.

REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

I strongly recommend that you uninstall:
µTorrent
BitTorrent
Vuze

While working to fix your system, removal of peer-2-peer programs is a necessity.

After you have carried out the uninstall, task scheduler, and startup recommendations, then
post a fresh set of the three files from CCleaner.

started this morning in a few minutes. i don't know why this ad-aware is still listed as i have uninstalled it.

AdAware is very very obnoxious.

Google for "uninstall AdAware"

If you do not find a tool for such then let me know.

Oh yes,
while uninstalling-- disconnect from the internet.

You may find that you need to uninstall your browser and then fresh install the browser to get rid of AdAware.
Be sure that there is an extenrsion/plugin/add-on for AdAware in your browser.

update your firefox.
click on downarrow in ff icon at very top, left | Help | About Firefox

you can go back into Scheduled Tasks, select the AdAware entry, and this time click on the Delete button.

You can also delete AdAware entries from Statup via CCleaner

CCleaner | Tools | Startup | Windows tab | select the AdAware entries | Delete button

Otherwise, things look clean.

hi karl, sorry. i have been quite sick last week. i have yet to try the full uninstall of ad-aware as you have laid out above. will try that now. the pc has been booting up anywhere from a few seconds to ten minutes...

all healthy now thx. unfortunately cannot say the same about this pc! i turned it on in the morning and boot was about 15mins. (still haven't had a chance to remove ad-aware entirely but this cannot be the cause...?) i shutdown, went to uni for two hours and came home to turn on again. no good. i came home six hours later and still not on. while i sit on my net book it just now decides to boot up!

Remove AdAware.

Boot up in SafeMode. All OK?

boot up in SafeMode with Networking. All OK.

have no idea how to remove ad aware. i'm sure i have but it appears in that cc cleaner> start up> windows list.
i noticed in ccc leaner > start up > internet explorer, a bunch of things i don't use listed as enabled. i have disabled them now. try the safe mode boot now
